Virtual studio

Hi,

Couple of weeks ago I offered to help with creating a virtual studio, for a semi virtual sott news show for the web. I wanted to show a demo at that time about what I was talking about, but I got busy with another project. So today I managed to upload a really rough version and wanted to share it.

Take a look and see if this is something that might be practical.

Let me know what you think.

That is really cool!! :wizard:
How long did it take you to produce? For a 'rough' version its really slick!

Well, that is really cool!
And if that's the rough version, the 'smooth' version must be pretty amazing.
Really nice job, Neema!

Wooohw Nemma! That is slick! If that is just a draft ... how is the finished product going to look like ...impressive :cool2:

Thanks for the responses.

Ya its very rough, as the visuals need more improving. And I'm not too fond of the display videos. It was just something I was playing around with in After effects, and wanted to demonstrate the video in the studio.

This short demo took me just under 4 hours, including all rendering, display video, and CGI animation.

If we would ever have this sort of news room, most of the effects and video material will be pre composed so the focus can be on green screen Chromakey and render time.

The reason behind the speed of rendering is because it is hardware rendered as opposed to software rendered.

Whether the sott team decides on using this method for a news program or not, I wanted to visually demonstrate how such a production might look like.

That's pretty quick if you ask me.

So in other words, once it's rendered, it will stay always the same - only the screen will play right?
Maybe a silly question, Do the lights in the virtual studio close when things start playing on the screen? You know, to put the attention there where is needed; also no distraction.

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean, but let me clarify.

The pre composition I am talking about is any news room display footage and sfx that have to be created with a video compositing program. Things like video interviews, logo backgrounds, and anything that is shown on the virtual display screens.

The virtual studio itself, is a real-time render engine. Similar to a video game engine. And yes, everything is editable and functional.
The idea here is to have real life footage of the news team, combined with a fully functional virtual studio and real interview footage.

And off course the studio itself can be anything that is created in a 3d environment.

For example, recently another member made a really cool virtual sott set. So say you wanted to use it in this production, first it has to be in 3ds format, second it must be of a low polygon count with highly refined textures. Basically it should be ported in a similar way that game makers create there 3D models.

Hope that is more clear.

for a rough draft so to say i think it looks good, and the idea behind it is brilliant :) while the messenger is important, it's the message that we're here for
