What are you listening to?

Mrs. Tigersoap,
I love that song and Florence & the Machine. I got the CD Lungs that has that song. My other 2 faves on that CD are
Rabbit Heart & Cosmic Love.

I like these as well (but You got the love is my favourite!). My husband's favourite is Dog days are over. I really like it as well. Her songs and her 'universe' are very special, fantastic, quirky and romantic and in that respect remind me of Bat for Lashes, although musically speaking, they are different.

Thanks for bringing all that up!
My favorite is also Dog Days Are Over but I like the others also, very much. They all convey something special in themselves, like you said.

I haven't heard of Bat for Lashes before and am quite positively surprised with them. Thanks for discovering them to me. ;D
The one that I got "hooked up" with at the moment is Horse and I (I really, REALLY love that kind of sounds :P)

"Horse and I"

Got woken in the night,
by a mystic golden light.
My head soaked in river water.
I had been dressed in a coat of armor. They called a horse out of the woodland.
"Take her there, through the desert shores."
They sang to me, "This is yours to wear. You're the chosen one, there's no turning back now."

The smell of redwood giants.
The banquet for the shadows.
Horse and I, we're dancers in the dark.
Came upon the headdress.

It was gilded, dark and golden.
The children sang.
I was so afraid I took it to my head and prayed.
They sang to me, "This is yours to wear. You're the chosen one, there's no turning back."
They sang to me, "This is yours to wear. You're the chosen one, there's no turning back."

There is no turning back.
There is no turn.
There is no turning back.
There is no turn.
There is no turning back.
There is no turn.

Deedlet, you gotta listen to her (since the band is mainly Natasha Khan)! She uses harpsichord, which gives such a special vibe to her music. It's at the same time very modern and ancient at the same time, it's really special.

That's my favourite! It's so beautiful! Her lyrics have nothing to do with what is sung about in songs nowadays and very often I find myself thinking about the SOTT or the FOTCM while listening to them, when she talks about communities, etc. I really like Tahiti and Daniel (on the Two Suns album) as well.

Yeah, I have loved her music ever since I discovered her as well. She's so talented and her voice is so moody and haunting. Her live band is really great too - here's a live performance of Horse and I, also one of my faves of her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcc7-we_2DM

For whatever reason, Incubus' Drive popped into my mind this morning. I threw it on, and there were all these little synchronicities in there, including 4th Way analogies -- or that's what struck me, anyway. Enjoy :)

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I let the fear
Take the wheel and steer
It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I'm beginning to find that I
Should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive?
It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find that
When I drive myself my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there

Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there

Cheesy pop? or Fun with 'ADD'? What would life be like without both? I don't think I want to know. :D

MMMBop - Hanson

Oh oh oh oh oh
Yeah

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Oh yeah
And they're gone so fast, yeah
Oh
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And when you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care?
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du
Yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du
Yeah

...said oh yeah
In an Mmmbop they're gone
Yeah yeah

Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It's a secret no one knows
It's a secret no one knows
Oh, no one knows

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du, yeah

Oh
Yeah yeah

In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmm bop they're not there
In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmm bop they're not there
Until you lose your hair
Oh
But you don't care
yeah

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du, yeah

Yeah

Can you tell me? oh
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can you tell me? oh yeah
You say you can but you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
(Which flower's going to grow?)
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
(If it's going to be a daisy or a rose?)
You say you can but you don't know

You say you can but you don't know
You dont know, oh
You dont know, oh...

Mmmbop, duba
du bop, du

Mmmbop, duba
duba du

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du, oh

Tori Amos's Winter is a song that really hits me somewhere deep. I can relate to it partly as a parent, and partly as a child -- it's about change, and what it means in the context of that relationship; maybe it's also about changes that have to happen regardless of how much you want to protect the ones who will be affected. I really like this particular live rendition.

Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose
Get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter
I put my hand in my father's glove

I run off
Where the drifts get deeper
Sleeping beauty trips me with a frown
I hear a voice,
"You must learn to stand up for yourself
Cause I can't always be around"

He says,
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change my dear

Boys get discovered as winter melts
Flowers competing for the sun
Years go by and I'm here still waiting
Withering where some snowman was
Mirror mirror where's the crystal palace
But I only can see myself
Skating around the truth who I am
But I know, Dad, the ice is getting thin

When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change my dear

Hair is grey
And the fires are burning
So many dreams
On the shelf
You say I wanted you to be proud of me
I always wanted that myself

He says,
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses have gone ahead
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change
My dear

Shijing,

Tori Amos . . . .remember buying a few of her albums back in college. Winter was one of my favorites.

Have you heard her rendition of People Are Strange, by the Doors?

No, I hadn't, and thanks for posting it -- I have to admit, I'm not familiar with the original Doors song, which would probably make it a bit more meaningful, but it sounds like a nice, intimate performance of some kind.

U2 - Window In The Skies (Modernista Version)

The shackles are undone
The bullet's quit the gun
The heat that's in the sun
Will keep us when it's done
The rule has been disproved
The stone, it has been moved
The grain is now a grove
All debts are removed

Oh, can't you see what love has done
Oh, can't you see what love has done
Oh, can't you see what love has done
What it's doing to me

Love makes strange enemies
Makes love where love may please
Soul in its striptease
Hate brought to its knees
The sky over our head
We can reach it from our bed
If you let me in your heart
And out of my head

Oh, can't you see what love has done
Oh, can't you see what love has done
Oh, can't you see what love has done
What it's doing to me

oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh

Please don't ever let me out of here
I've got no shame
Oh no, oh no

Oh, can't you see what love has done
Oh, can't you see
Oh, can't you see what love has done
What it's doing to me

Oh, can't you see what love has done
I know I hurt you and I made you cry
Oh, can't you see what love has done
Did everything but murder you and I
Oh, can't you see what love has done
But love left a window in the skies
Oh, can't you see what love has done
And to love I rhapsodize

Oh, can't you see what love has done
To every broken heart
Oh, can't you see what love has done
For every heart that cries
Oh, can't you see what love has done
Love left a window in the skies
Oh, can't you see what love has done
And to love I rhapsodize

Oh, can't you see

I really enjoyed it. :)

Yeah, that was good, Bud -- thanks for posting it :)

Speaking of U2, I was reminded recently of Running to Stand Still from The Joshua Tree. It was an acoustic guitar version that was pretty cool.

Thank you, Deedlet! Love to discover new and beautiful music. :)
