Bellota and Mast cell Cancer

Bellota was diagnosed with Mast Cell Cancer, the most common skin cancer in dogs.

A few weeks ago she had surgery to remove two small masses of approximately 2 cms.

The histopathology study says it is Grade 2 and high grade.

The Veterinary Oncologist suggests giving a few months of prednisone starting the first 15 days with 10 mg, the next 15 days with 5 mg, 15 days with 5 mg every other day, until reaching 1/4 of a pill.

And two months of Lomustine, the first 20 mg and the second month 20 mg.

Bellota has been eating BARF for 6 years and now we are going to modify it without carbohydrates and they recommended Omega 3, Quercetin, turkey tail Mushroom and milk thistle.

Bellota is doing well, she is in good spirits, eats well, goes for walks happily, fights with the other dogs in the house 😛😆

We feel sad at times but also calm because we see Bellota in good spirits.

If you have any advice or suggestions they are welcome.

I share with you photos of Bellota 😝❤️

Thanks and hugs!

Bellota is a cute dog! I wish her well.

Hello, an update on the Bellota’s case.

After the surgery, we had a problem with the sutures of the wound because they were subcutaneous and she rejected them, so we had to go several times to the Vet but it was not complicated or painful.

At the beginning of October she took the first dose of Lomustine which is the medicine for the cancer and she tolerated it very well, there were no side effects, she eats perfectly, she is happy,
walks 3 times a day with good energy.

Last week took a blood sample to check how she was doing before taking the second dose of Lomustine.

We saw the oncologist and the white blood cells and liver were altered, but it was something that was expected to happen, however they were not very high

The Oncologist was surprised that these markers were not too high because he has seen other dogs that have had these markers altered a lot.

I would like to think that the liver supplement we are giving her is helping.

On November 1st we gave her the second dose of lomustine and she had 2 days of stomach discomfort, however she did not stop eating, we did some changes in her food and she has been doing very well.

On November 14th she will have surgery to remove a small bump that was left, the oncologist recommended to do it now that she is on the medication.

At the beginning of December we will go back to the Oncologist with new blood tests and an abdominal ultrasound, if everything goes well, he will suspend the medication and will see her in February.

Bellota has never looked sad or down at any time.

She eats perfectly, walks happily, has very good energy, she is in such a good mood that yesterday she raided the garbage and threw it all over the house.🤦🏻‍♀️😝
It is understandable because she is still taking Prednisone and she gets hungry.

So we hope that Bellota continues well and that the treatment is enough.

Thanks for your good wishes always!

Bellota sends you a hug and a lick on your cheeks.🐶

Merci Claudia, ces bonnes nouvelles font tant de bien à lire...
Je la garde dans mes prières tout comme toi...
Prenez bien soin de vous deux...

Thank you Claudia, this good news is so good to read...
I keep her in my prayers just like you...
Take good care of you both...

A small update.

Last week we did an andominal ultrasound to see how her organs were doing.

Since the mast cell makes tumors in the stomach and other organs.

The ultrasound came back perfect, nothing to worry about.

She had two lumps removed a few weeks ago but they were so small that there was no need to put her to sleep, they only put her under local anesthesia. Bellota is such a good dog that she was very calm.

On Thursday we had an appointment with the oncologist and he told us that for now she will not take any more medications.

We will repeat the ultrasound in February and only periodic checkups.

We have to keep an eye out for new lumps.

Bellota will continue with her supplements.

She is still in a very good mood and happy.

Thank you for your good wishes.
