Russia Begins Operations in Syria: End Game for the US Empire?

Meanwhile, this disturbing bit of news:

Media Blackout: House of Reps passes 'No-Fly Zone in Syria' bill during special session with rules suspended
https://www.sott.net/article/334894-Media-Blackout-House-of-Reps-passes-No-Fly-Zone-in-Syria-bill-during-special-session-with-rules-suspended

...Establishment of a no-fly zone is the next crucial step toward full-scale war. It would mean Syrian planes could not fly in their own airspace and would bring the disturbing prospect of U.S. planes shooting down Russian planes — which are operating there on invitation from Syria to help battle ISIS.

Soon after the presidential election, key warmongers in Congress began formulating plans to make increased conflict a near certainty, complete with the kind of propaganda peddled before the Iraq attack. While everyone was distracted by the election of Trump, six representatives took advantage of the lame-duck session and suspended "normal rules" to bring us H.R. 5732.

As reported by Consortium News:

"Late in the day, on Nov. 15, one week after the U.S. elections, the lame-duck Congress convened in special session with normal rules suspended so the House could pass House Resolution 5732, the "Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act" calling for intensifying the already harsh sanctions on Syria, assessing the imposition of a "no fly zone" inside Syria (to prevent the Syrian government from flying) and escalating efforts to press criminal charges against Syrian officials...Most strikingly, the resolution calls for evaluating and developing plans for the United States to impose a "no fly zone" inside Syria, a sovereign nation, an act of war that also would violate international law as an act of aggression. It also could put the U.S. military in the position of shooting down Russian aircraft."

The suspension of rules procedure is supposed to be used for "non-controversial" bills such as naming Post Offices, but this small group of lawmakers used it to pass a drastically important bill. The blatant abuse of power shows the desperation in the neocon ranks.

Donald Trump has spoken out against regime change, but considering his unpredictable behavior, the actual position of his coming administration is anybody's guess. Trump's pick of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as national security adviser is not a good portent.

Earlier this month, Flynn strongly supported Turkish President Erdogan in an op-ed at The Hill, suggesting he is under siege by "radical Islam" and desperately needs our help. Flynn seemed to dismiss Erdogan's crackdown on political dissidents and the dubious circumstances of the attempted coup which allowed Erdogan to solidify his power.

It may be no coincidence that just days ago, Turkey — a NATO ally — urged to U.S. to move forward with a no-fly zone in Syria. Incidentally, no one seems to have paid attention to a damning investigative report finding that the "Turkish government under President Erdogan is covertly providing direct military, financial and logistical support to ISIS, even while claiming to fight the terror network."...

To me, it seems like the "now or never" push: the no fly zone, the threatening of the electors, the extreme big brother laws in Germany and UK, the very unreasonable stance against the water protectors, the "fake news", the ruling of the EU against "russian" propaganda, the gold and silver suppression, the cash pullout in India, the CETA push-through in EU and there are probably other things being pushed though right now that we don't yet know about?
The masks are dropping like never before.

It appears like there are major developments in E. Aleppo, with the terrorists losing 1/3 of their area:
From a commenter and contributor from Syrianperspective, Canthama:

_http://syrianperspective.com/2016/11/hanaanu-area-liberated-completely-by-syrian-army-syrian-air-force-blasts-nusraalqaeda-convoy-north-of-aleppo-killing-and-wounding-hundreds-syrian-army-levels-meeting-of-jaysh-al-islam-terrorists.html#comment-197463

The magnitude of the terrorists’ defeat in eastern Aleppo city is unprecedented, in 3 days they have lost a 1/3 of the original pocket with very little losses for the SAA and allied forces, and that in one os the most dense populated area in Syria if not in the entire Middle East. This victory will send shock waves to the entire region and give hope to millions of Syrians, Iraqis, Yemenis, Libyans that the impossible can be done.
I lost count on the numbers of civilians safely evacuated, it could be easily some 5-10,000 civilians so far, that is a huge moral victory for the Syrian Government and its allies.

So far it is confirmed the liberation of the following districts since early today :
1) Jabal Badro
2) Hellok
3) Bustan al Pasha
4) Ba’edin
5) Ayn al Tal
6) Inzarat

Partial liberation of :
1) Haydariyah (the full liberation is coming at any moment).
2) Sheikh Fares (terrorists leaving the area on the double)
3) Sheikh Kedher (terrorists leaving the area on the double)
4) Sakhur (pocket funneling the terrorists from all the above districts toward south, there is a narrow area still open to allow the terrorists to scape south)

The way this advance is going, it is very likely that the new border line will be at the Aleppo International Airport Motorway.

Here is another map, which even if it might be prematurely drawn, it will likely be a reality in a few hours the way things are going.

The faster the battle for Aleppo is finished, the more useless will the No-fly zone be which congress just passed, as Laura wrote above.

Meanwhile, it appears as if something happened to an illegal American base in Hasakah in Syria according to Syrper:
_http://syrianperspective.com/2016/11/jabal-badru-now-free-of-rats-as-army-expands-its-reach-into-new-areas-while-hundreds-escape-the-rodent-scourge-5-americans-killed-in-kurdish-base-in-al-hasaka-after-explosion-total-secrecy-as.html

AL-HASAKA: This is developing news. The United States Army Special Forces and Rangers have lost 5 soldiers at Tal Tamr, specifically at a Kurdish military base called the Zeewaar Camp. This camp famously flew the American flag and the British Union Jack as of 3 days ago demonstrating the deepening ties between the traitorous Kurds and their terrorist-supporting allies in NATO. The deaths and scores of wounded were the result of an electrical spark[?] detonating a warehouse loaded with American-supplied explosives close to a cow breeding facility. We don’t know yet if members of Britains SAS were also on the scene to receive a much-deserved send-off. Americans spirited, by helicopter, their dead and wounded to a Syrian location at Al-Mabrooka and then to Kurdistaan for full disposition. The Kurds, not so lucky, sent theirs to Al-Qaamishli. The significance of this story is that it proves the Americans and British have invaded Syria unlawfully. The White House and the State Department are trying to keep this one under wraps.

At the end of a post at Syrianperspective was what I found to be a bit of an overview of Egypts relationship with Syria.

The new Middle East

We have discussed at SyrPer a few weeks ago the strategic alliance between Egypt, Iraq and Syria that also involves Iran, Libya, Algeria, Yemen and Russia. The following thread explains the Egyptian view of the reinvigorated alliance with Syria.

The thread below was copied from Sa’ka @BTelawy, one of the best sources for geopolitics and military information regarding Egypt.

1- People should know that Egypt’s support to Syria is not new or sudden. So let’s start from the beginning:

2- On June, 2013, Morsi ordered the closing of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo and a no fly zone over Syria, while inciting to join the FSA.

3- However, diplomatic relations were restored and the embassies reopened just weeks later by al-Sisi in July 2013 after he removed Morsi.

4- Since then, Egypt was conservative in official statements while insisting in the priority to preserve Syrian territories & fight terrorism.

5- In 2014, al-Sisi tried to bring back the Saudi / Syrian relations with King Abdullah Ben Abdelaziz. It could have worked, but Salman arrived.

6- King Salman reaffirmed the support to terror-groups in Syria with the western and refused any reconciliation with Dr. Bashar al-Assad.

7- 2015 was a very important year where things began to change especially on the diplomatic levels between Egypt and Syria.

8- On September 2015, al-Sisi said to CNN he’s against overthrowing the Syrian Government by force, which would lead to the partition of Syria & the fall of its army.

9- At the same period, sources report that al-Sisi met Ali Mamlouk in Cairo after a meeting with high-ranks Egyptian & Syrian intel in Beirut.

10- On November 25th, Egypt proposed legislation to the UN for the total withdrawal of Israel from the Golan & to restitute with the 1967’s border to Syria

11- On December 2015: Dr. Bashar al Assad said in an interview that the cooperation with the Egyptian Army has never stopped, even during Morsi’s period.

12- It means, that security ties between Egypt & Syria have never been cut over the war. We are talking about intel & military cooperation, but in what way?

13- A cooperation between the Syrian & Egyptian intelligence, ok, but about the military support? Certainly, ammo, equipments, logistic support,

14- An example, how Syrian Gazelle helicopters managed to survive 5 years of war without maintenance and spare parts ?

15- Egypt is the only country in the region that produces its spare parts and has maintenance centers, same for Grad-missile,

16- Now, over the past 2 months things have sped up with 3 important events.

17- Egyptian officials started to reflect in their speeches and foreign policy a very different vision from the Saudis

18- On September 26th 2016: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shokri, said that KSA wants to change al-Assad’s Government but Egypt wasn’t talking that approach

19- On October 8th 2016, Egypt voted for UNSC Russia’s resolution on Syria & refused to accuse the SAA of war crimes on a letter signed by 62 countries.

20- On November 16th, Egyptian diplomatic source said that steps have been taken to restore cohesion between countries of the region & defend Arab interests,

21- because some countries wanted to eliminate the unity of the region / the ‘Arab Nationalism’ with war in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen.

22- Secondly, October 17th 2016: the 3rd known meeting between high-level Egyptian and Syrian intelligence delegation headed by Ali Mamlouk in Cairo.

23- And finally October 20th 2016, Egypt announced that in coordination with UN & Syria’s government, it would supervise the delivery humanitarian aids & evacuation of wounded

24- We can see the growing involvement of Egypt in the Syrian conflict between 2014 / 2016 that in fact never stopped, including its support.

25- But when politics led nowhere, there is no many options. Now let’s talk about the latest development of Egyptian troops in Syria.

26- Diff sources confirmed to me a month ago that there are Egyptian officers in Syria while Minister of Foreign Affairs denied saying there’s no troops « for fighting ».

27- Yes, there are no troops involved in battles but it means that there could be Egyptian advisers on the ground in Syria.

28- Egyptian officers are present in all fronts over Syria, especially Palmyra, what does it mean ?

29- What’s sure, Egypt militarily support the SAA & its troops are deployed for training. (never forget that the SAA is Egypt’s 1st Army)

30- We can expect an involvement of the Air Force and SOF units on the ground, but the deployment of full armoured division? i don’t think so

31- Egypt is not ready to be fully-engaged in a war outside the country but it can help by other ways. An example, the new 5th Corps

32- i’m pretty sure that Egypt will help to form the 5th Corps, due to its similarity to the Rapid Deployment Forces that Egypt created,

33- and help i mean, exchange of experience on the battlefield with the SAA, unit formation, equipments, tactics to develop etc

34- One can except, an air support on Raqqa / Deir Ezzor fronts but not now. I think it’s a matter of time, and we may see that in 2017.

35- While few weeks ago, Iraq announced that after Mosul they will help the SAA to retake Raqqa, do you see what i mean ?

36- High-rank Egyptian officers travelled to Syria it’s certain, and many good things should be announced soon by both sides

37- One of the option is that Egyptian troops take in charge the protection of some Syrian cities to liberate SAA units in the operations

38-To conclude, Egypt and Syria have historic ties on all levels that no one can break, even with their billion of dollars.

End- Just need time to see it. Syria is a matter of national security for Egypt & represent our 1st Field Army, we can’t let our brothers.

Sounds like desperation of the outgoing liberal democrats.

Note that the act was introduced to the House back in July, and notice the text on the "no fly zone"

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President shall submit to the appropriate congressional committee a report that—(1) assesses the potential effectiveness, risks, and operational requirements of the establishment and maintenance of a no-fly zone over part or all of Syria

A "no fly zone" was discussed earlier this year in congress with the Sec. of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Statt. The answer then was obvious "we cant, unless you want war with Russia and Syria". I reckon it still holds today, and will do for the foreseeable future.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad warned the Turkish government to immediately withdraw its military forces from Syria.

Syria Warns Turkey to Withdraw Forces Immediately
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950907000402

"Turkey should immediately retreat from the Syrian territories, and as long as Turkey continues occupation of the Syrian lands, the regional situation will not improve," Mikdad told al-Mayadeen news channel on Sunday.

He referred to Turkey's protest at the death and injury of a number of its military men in Syria's al-Bab city, and said, "The Turks should protest at themselves since the incident has happened inside the Syrian territories."

The Turkish military announced in a statement that three of its soldiers have been killed and 10 more wounded in Syria by an air strike allegedly launched by Syrian government forces.

A statement from the Turkish armed forces on its website said that the attack occurred at 3:30am local time [00:30 GMT] on Thursday.

"In the air strike assessed to have been by Syrian regime forces, three of our heroic soldiers were killed and 10 soldiers wounded, one seriously," it said in the statement.

It did not say where the attack occurred, but Turkish news media said the location was near the northern Syrian city of al-Bab.

In response, the Syrian army denied any such attack, stressing that no Syrian or Russian fighter jet has attacked Turkish army positions in Northwestern Aleppo.

"No Syrian or Russian aircraft bombed the Turkish army (positions) near (the town of) al-Bab on November 23rd - all reports claiming otherwise are lies," massdar news quoted the official as saying.

"Turkey is planning something in East Aleppo and using this alleged attack as a ploy to escalate the situation," he added.

In relevant remarks on Saturday, a senior member of the Syrian Parliament warned Ankara of the dire consequences of Turkish military interference in Northern Syria, warning that Damascus and Baghdad will give a crushing response to such invasions.

Mohammad Jalal Midou warned Turkey of the negative impacts of its continued military interferences in Northern Syria, and added, "Ankara should know that Syria and Iraq have not thus far disclosed their winning card in battlefields against the Turkish military invasion and when the card is played Ankara's situation will be totally changed."

"The plan of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura to grant autonomy to the Eastern regions of Aleppo was dismissed and now we should wait for another envoy who would step in to comply with the policies and aspirations of the new US administration," he further added.

"Donald Trump's administration will have major differences with Barak Obama's," the legislator added.

Tensions between Damascus and Ankara have gone so high that Syrian sources report army's preemptive strike in the Northern parts of Syria to block the Turkish army's attempts to establish a buffer zone in the region.

Aleppo: Direct Clashes between Syrian, Turkish Armies Possible in Al-Bab Battle
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950907000508

After liberation of 25 farms and villages from the terrorists' control in Aleppo, the Syrian army forces continued to advance in the region to surround the strategic city of al-Bab from its Southern and Western sides.

The ISIL stronghold city of Al-Bab Northeast of Aleppo is on the verge of a major war among the Syrian army, the Kurds and the Turkey-backed forces that are part of Turkey's Euphrates Shield Operation.

Reports said if the Euphrates Shield Operation forces reach the gates of al-Bab city, the ISIL terrorists will withdraw without any resistance which will pave the ground for the Turkey-backed groups. The ISIL has adopted the same strategy in a number of villages and towns in the Northern parts of Aleppo.

Meantime, possibility is high for direct clashes between the Syrian and Turkish armies as the Turkey-sponsored forces that are backed up by the Tukish army tanks stress that they are resolved to take al-Bab.

Saturday reports said that the Syrian army had inched closer to one of the most important strongholds of the ISIL in the Arab country, and were only three kilometers away from the Northern Syrian city of al-Bab in Aleppo province, while the Ankara-backed militants are also racing towards the city.

According to the Al-Mayadeen TV channel, the army troops managed to dislodge ISIL terrorists from six settlements near al-Bab, and are approaching the ISIL's stronghold city.

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) supported by the Turkish Air Force and armored vehicles has also launched an offensive to push terrorists out of the vital Bastion of ISIL as capturing the city is of strategic importance to Ankara in order to prevent the Kurds' reunification

Military sources had disclosed in mid September that a large number of Syrian soldiers are deployed at Kuweires airbase to start military operations against the terrorists in al-Bab.

"Hundreds of Syrian soldiers are now in Kuweires airbase 40 kilometers to the east of Aleppo city to start al-Bab military operations against the ISIL terrorist group," the Arabic-language media quoted an unnamed military source as saying.

Also, another source said in mid November that the Syrian army has sent around 1,000 reinforcement troops to the Eastern countryside of Aleppo to start the operation that aims to create a safe zone in areas in the vicinity of Kuweires airbase, including al-Bab, adding that the Syrian government troops' military operation in al-Bab region is also meant to block further advances of the Turkey-backed terrorists in al-Bab region.

After recapturing Manbij from ISIL by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), al-Bab and Deir Hafer have turned into the largest bases of ISIL in Aleppo province.

Experts believe that Syrian army's operations in al-Bab and Deir Hafer that are entrance gates to Raqqa province signify the government forces plan to start an attack on Raqqa soon, while the Kurdish forces have also started a large-scale offensive on Raqqa, codenamed 'Wrath of Euphrates', a couple of days ago.

Sources close to the Syrian dissidents disclosed that the Turkish army has deployed anti-aircraft 'Stinger' missile system to the regions near al-Bab city Northeast of Aleppo province.

Turkish Army Deploys Anti-Aircraft 'Stinger' Missile System in Syria
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950907000955

Ahmad al-Khatib, a journalist with close links to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorist group, disclosed on his twitter page that Turkey is equipping its affiliated forces stationed near the strategic city of al-Bab with Stinger missile system.

The Turkish media had also reported on Saturday that a number of trucks carrying air defense systems were moving from Oguzeli region in Gaziantep towards the Syrian borders.

Tensions between Damascus and Ankara have gone so high that Syrian sources report army's preemptive strike in the Northern parts of Syria to block the Turkish army's attempts to establish a buffer zone in the region.

Abdullah Muhammad al-Muhaysini, a senior al Qaeda-linked cleric and the religious leader of Jeish al-Fatah coalition of terrorist groups, said Ankara is duty bound to intensify militant invasion of Syria from the standpoint of Takfiri interpretation of Islam.

Terrorists' Religious Leader Begs Turkey to Continue Military Invasion in Syria
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950907001024

The Saudi Mufti (religious leader) called on the Turkish air-defense units, deployed at Turkey's border with Syria, to target the Syrian fighter jets.

Al-Muhaysini acknowledged the militant groups' defeats in both phases of their Great Epic Operation in Aleppo, and demanded the Turkish army to change military equation against the Syrian army in the Northern part of the war-hit country by intensifying military interference in the country.

He further lashed out at Arab armies that are spending their funds on holding military drills and festivals and urged them to instead spend their money to back militant groups in Syria and removal of Syrian government forces' siege on the militant-held districts in Aleppo city.

Al-Muhaysini said that 3,500 militants are now in Aleppo and urged the youth to take up arms and join them instead of escaping the city.

He went on to say that if the militant groups do not unite they will be forced to withdraw from the entire Levant.

Al-Watan said in a report that al-Muhaysini's demands prove that every thing has ended for the militant groups in the Eastern districts of Aleppo and the Saudi Mofti and other terrorists face no fate but death to surrender.

"Representatives of Washington, Ankara and Riyadh, in a meeting held with the representative of Jeish al-Fatah to encourage the militants to keep their positions in the besieged districts of Aleppo city, called on the terrorist coalition to regroup its militants and get ready for a large-scale operation in the city," the source said.

Jeish al-Fatah was ordered in the meeting not to leave their positions in the besieged part of Aleppo city under any condition even if their refusal to leave the city ends in the killing of civilians.

The information center further quoted the source as saying that the meeting between the representatives of Jeish al-Fatah, the US, Turkey and Saudi Arabia proved one more time that the states that claimed responsibility about saving civilians' lives, in fact, are a part of assassination and destruction (in Aleppo) and their words are shier lies.

"The UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura must disclose the realities and should not be at the service of conspirators. The Syrian army will never accept terrorists' hostage-taking in the Eastern districts of Aleppo and is resolved to drive the terrorists out of these district immediately," the source added.

Senior Russian military officers have held a meeting with commanders of Hezbollah forces in Aleppo, Lebanese media claimed on Sunday.

Report: Senior Russian Military Officers Meet Hezbollah Commanders in Aleppo
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950907001215

A report by the Arabic-language al-Hadath news website said Hezbollah commanders were invited to a first time bilateral meeting with senior Russian army generals because of their outstanding role in defeating the terrorist groups' 'Great Epic Operation' in the Western districts of Aleppo to break the siege of the Eastern parts of the city.

According to the report, presence of Hezbollah forces was important to Russia since they greatly helped repel the first and second waves of the terrorists' attacks and conduct counterattacks which led to the immediate collapse of Jeish al-Fatah defense lines, capture of a number of regions and tightening of siege on the militants in a number of districts.

According to al-Hadath, while Kremlin had stopped its airstrikes in Aleppo, a meeting was held between Hezbollah field commanders and senior Russian officers in Aleppo as their first direct and official meeting.

The website said the two sides had earlier had contacts only through their representatives in the Baghdad intelligence sharing center or through the Syria operations room and any exchange of intelligence on the battlefield was made only through Syrian army coordinators.

Media reports claimed mid-November that the (Lebanese) Hezbollah resistance movement sent more troops to Syria to take part in the fight against the terrorists in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.

"Hezbollah has dispatched another brigade to Syria who have been deployed just outside the city of Aleppo," the Russian Izvestia newspaper reported.

The paper quoted retired Syrian army general Brigadier General Ali Maqsoud as saying that the Hezbollah fighters would move to Idlib to prepare for military operations there after capturing Aleppo city and its surrounding regions
The Hezbollah fighters are only a part of the forces present in the Aleppo operations, he added.

Other reports claimed that the total number of Hezbollah fighters in Syria now stands at 5,000 with heavy artillery and weapons systems

No other source in Syria or Hezbollah has confirmed the reports yet.

US, Turkey Military Operations in Syria Are Intervention

https://sputniknews.com/politics/201611281047910081-us-turkey-operations-syria/

Washington and Ankara do not coordinate their military operations on Syria’s territory with Damascus, their presence in the country can be regarded as intervention, a senior Syrian Army official told Sputnik.

On August 24, Turkish forces, backed by US-led coalition aircraft, began a military operation dubbed Euphrates Shield to clear the Syrian border town of Jarabulus and the surrounding area of the Daesh, outlawed in Russia and many other countries. As Jarabulus was retaken, the joint forces of Ankara, the coalition and Syrian rebels continued the offensive southwest.

"There is no coordination between us on the one side and Turkey and the United States on the other… We believe that the actions of these two countries in northern Syria are interference in our internal affairs, aggression and intervention," Brig. Gen. Samir Suleiman, Head of the Media Affairs of the Syrian Army's Political Office, said.

He stressed that the Syrian army will withstand "any attempts of intervention on the part of foreign states."

The operation has been widely criticized both by the Syrian Kurds and Damascus accusing Ankara of violating Syria's territorial integrity.

US forces are also on the ground in Syria, equipping, advising, and training Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and partners for the operation to isolate and then retake the Daesh stronghold of Raqqa, Coalition Commander Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend said last Wednesday.

Operation in Aleppo Due to Sponsors of Terrorism Blocking Political Dialogue

https://sputniknews.com/politics/201611281047910524-aleppo-campaign-political-dialogue/

The Syrian government forces launched a military campaign in Aleppo because Western and regional sponsors of terrorism blocked all channels of political dialogue, a senior Syrian Army official told Sputnik.

The situation in Aleppo has been seriously deteriorating over the recent months. Thousands of citizens are believed to be trapped in the terrorist-besieged eastern parts of Aleppo with no access to food or water.

"We announced the beginning of military operations in Aleppo after channels for political dialogue closed. When countries in the West and the Middle East supporting terrorists closed the door to dialogue, we had to take military action," Brig. Gen. Samir Suleiman, Head of the Media Affairs of the Syrian Army's Political Office, said.

The specific date of when the Syrian government forces' campaign in Aleppo will end has not yet been determined, Samir Suleiman told Sputnik.

"The date of completion of the operation is not determined. We can confirm that it is continuing and it has not stopped."

Suleiman clarified that "this does not mean that the operation is now progressing at the same pace as in the beginning."

Kerry Pressing for Aleppo Deal With Russia 'Before Trump's Inauguration'

https://sputniknews.com/politics/201611281047909583-kerry-russia-deal-trump/

US Secretary of State John Kerry is putting efforts to strike a deal with Russia on resolving the situation in Syria's Aleppo before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated in January, media reported, citing officials.

Russian aide to the President Yury Ushakov described Kerry's efforts as "very active" and even "inconceivable" since "there have never been so many telephone contacts where only one topic was discussed – Syria."

America's top diplomat is apparently trying to bring more stakeholders to the table, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Iran, while focusing solely on Aleppo, a city which was Syria's commercial capital prior to the war, the Washington Post asserted.

Under the proposed deal, the United States will pledge to convince so-called "moderate" opposition to cut ties with al-Nusra Front, a terrorist group created as al-Qaeda's offshoot in Syria. This is something that Washington promised to deliver when Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reached an agreement in September. US-backed armed rebels refused to comply, rendering the fragile nationwide ceasefire unsustainable.

In exchange, the US apparently wants Syria and its allies to lift the siege of eastern Aleppo, the rebel-held area of the city, and allow humanitarian aid in. Washington appears to remain oblivious to the fact that Damascus and Moscow have repeatedly opened humanitarian corridors into eastern Aleppo. These initiatives have been complicated by radical groups active in the area.

The newspaper described Kerry's efforts as a "quiet mission."

Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov, the President of the Academy of Geopolitical Studies, said Kerry was the reason why Aleppo has not been liberated yet.

"I think that the interference of US Secretary of State John Kerry has halted the liberation of the Syrian city," he said. "When the plan of the multidimensional operation was laid out, he called with a request to postpone it."

Earlier in November, Lavrov mentioned that both countries are still trying to reach an agreement on Syria. He added that experts from the Middle Eastern countries which are involved in the Syrian conflict are also taking part in these efforts.

Russia's top diplomat also pointed to the largest stumbling block on the path to a new deal.

"These contacts have produced certain results, but they are also hindered by the same problem which prevented the Americans from keeping their promise to separate the so-called moderate opposition from [al-Nusra Front]. There is growing evidence and firm impression that they want to preserve al-Nusra as the most effective force in opposition to President Bashar al-Assad," he said.

Lavrov and Kerry discussed "ways of resolving the conflict in Syria," including Aleppo, during a telephone conversation on November 22.

The Obama administration has placed principal blame for what is happening in Syria on Assad, claiming that his removal is the necessary step to resolve the five-and-a-half-year-long war. Critics have pointed out that overthrowing Assad will only empower foreign-sponsored terrorist groups which have largely absorbed less radical fighters.

It is unlikely that Moscow and Washington will reach an agreement while the Obama administration remains in office. For his part, US President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that he is willing to cooperate with Moscow. At the same time, he also voiced his concerns over Washington's strategy of supporting rebel groups in Syria.

"Moscow is indeed hopeful that the new administration in the White House will prioritize the fight against terrorism and extremism and that joint dealings on Syria may culminate in a real cooperation. The spectrum of possible US-Russia interactions discussed in the Russian expert community varies from intelligence sharing between the respective agencies to coordinated joint military airstrikes to even a joint offensive on Raqqa sometime next year," Maxim A. Suchkov, an expert of the Russian International Affairs Council, wrote for al-Monitor.

Israel Strikes Daesh Compound in Southern Syria - IDF
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201611281047909209-idf-daesh-strikes/

On Sunday, Israeli media reported about clashes between Israeli troops and the terrorists on the Israeli-Syrian border. According to media, citing a military source that in response to attack on Israeli servicemen, IDF carried out an airstrike against the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army extremists, previously known as the Yarmouk Martyrs’ Brigade, and destroyed a truck with "some sort of machine gun on top" carrying four militants.

The Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade was formed in 2012 and has been responsible for attacks in Syria and along the Israeli and Jordanian borders, according to the US Department of State. The group has also pledged allegiance to Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia and the United States.

"Ahrar al-Sham commanders had a gathered in a military base near the terrorist-controlled Al-Rastan region in Northern Homs province when their meeting came under the Syrian airstrikes," a Syrian military source said.

The source noted that as a result of the Syrian fighter jets' raids at least five terrorist commanders were killed and 15 others were wounded.

Several notorious terrorists, including Muhammad Al-Hosn from Iraq, Bilal Al-Daher, and Muhammad Al-Mahmoud were among the terrorists killed in Northern Homs province. A military vehicle parked outside the building was also destroyed in the air raid.

Fatah al-Sham Front (previously known as the al-Nusra Front) and Ahrar al-Sham terrorist groups finally agreed to hand over the strategic town of Khan al-Sheih to the Syrian army after four years of battle.

Fatah Al-Sham Front, Ahrar Al-Sham Terrorists Agree to Hand Over Khan Al-Sheih
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950908000523

"The terrorists have started boarding the buses in Khan al-Sheih as they prepare to be transported to Idlib province by the government," the Arab media quoted an informed source as saying.

The source noted that the militants initially requested to be transferred to Dara'a province before surrendering the town; however, the Syrian Army's High Command declined the request because it would allow them continue their war in Southern Syria.

Once the terms were accepted by both sides, the date for the terrorists' transfer to Idlib was set for November 27th, but this was later postponed to November 28th due to some problems with Fatah Al-Sham members that refused to surrender.

Khan Al-Sheih is Fatah Al-Sham's last stronghold in the Western Ghouta region of rural Damascus; its loss will free up thousands of soldiers from the Syrian Army.

On Sunday, a security source said that the Syrian army reopened all routes leading to Khan al-Sheih to take the first step in the implementation of the peace plan with the militant groups.

The source said that the first paragraph of the plan includes the terrorists' surrender of heavy, semi-heavy and light weapons to the army and the start of their relocation to Idlib on Monday.

According to the source, the Syrian army has agreed to grant amnesty to those militants who want to remain in the region but those who want to leave Khan al-Sheih should surrender all their weapons, equipment, ammunition, maps of their tunnels and planted mines to the army first.

Meantime, local sources reported that a number of buses have been sent to the nearby areas of Khan al-Sheih.

The Syrian Army's devastating attacks and advances in Western Ghouta forced the terrorist groups in Khan al-Sheih region to ask the government forces for a revival of the negotiations after they pushed the last round of peace talks into failure.

As ceasefire talks was in final stages to give the terrorist groups an opportunity to surrender in return for amnesty or relocate to Idlib province similar to other militant groups in Damascus province, the militants, mainly from the Al-Nusra Front, launched attacks to lift the army siege of Khan al-Sheih town irrespective of the truce and pushed the talks into failure.

After repelling terrorists' large-scale attacks to lift the army siege in the town of Khan al-Sheih that pushed the peace talks into failure, the government forces intensified their attacks on militants' defense lines in and outside the town and took full control of more regions.

The terrorists were forced to accept the terms of a truce after they lost over 100 fighters in the Syrian army's recent anti-terrorism operations in Khan al-Sheih that ended up in the army's tightening siege of the town.

"The recent victories of the army men in the al-Soqour region have compelled the militants to call on the government forces to declare their consent to the entire terms of the neglected agreement for leaving the region," several dissident sources said through their social media pages.

The Syrian army and popular forces strengthened their military positions in newly captured districts in the Eastern part of the city of Aleppo on Monday.

The army units and their allies fortified their military positions in Haydariyah and al-Sakhor districts in Eastern Aleppo city.

Meantime, the Hezbollah resistance forces are chasing the terrorists who are trying to flee the region.

On Sunday, the terrorists sustained heavy defeat in different fronts in Northeastern districts of Aleppo and they had to withdraw from Haydariyah, Bustan al-Pasha, al-Hallak, Ayn al-Tal and al-Sheikh Khezr regions.

Meantime, Syria's media reported that the resistance forces managed to take full control of al-Sakhor region after they had seized back over 95 percent of the region on Sunday.

On Sunday, it was reported that the countdown has started for the collapse of Jeish al-Fatah terrorists in entire Eastern Aleppo as they are losing ground to invading army and popular forces in several neighborhoods and were forced to evacuate Bustan al-Pasha district Northeast of the city after brief clashes in the evening.

According to some Arab media outlets, militants of Fateh Halab (Aleppo Conqueror) factions have abandoned Bustan Al-Pasha as well as Haydariyah and Baeedin districts after huge defeats of their comrades on Sunday.

Thousands of civilians could manage to escape the militant-held neighborhoods in the Eastern part of Aleppo city and were hosted in the army-controlled regions.

http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950908000321

More than 3,000 civilians, who had been taken hostage by terrorists in the Eastern districts of Aleppo, could flee these neighborhoods after more lands were captured by the government forces on Sunday.

The fleeing civilians were warmly hosted in army-controlled regions.

After the Syrian army and its allies intensified their operations in Eastern Aleppo, more civilians, who were used as human shields by the militants, could flee from the region.

On Sunday, 600 more civilians also managed to escape from the terrorist-controlled areas in Eastern Aleppo.

They disclosed that they had tried many times to exit Eastern Aleppo, but every time they were blocked by the terrorist groups, adding that the terrorists blocked civilians' access to food and medicine to force them to join the militant groups as people were living in very difficult conditions.

They also stressed that the people in the terrorist-controlled areas cannot escape; "if they could no one would stay there". "Militants have closed off all roads and corridors to the outside world to use people as human shields."

Who is Celebrating the Assassination of the USSR? (Photos)
http://dissidentvoice.org/2016/11/who-is-celebrating-the-assassination-of-the-ussr/

Last Friday the Atlantic Council hosted a curious panel in Washington, DC, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the dissolution of the USSR:
three shabby men who personally participated in a notorious, clandestine meeting in the Belavezha forest in Belarus on December 8, 1991 were seated on a stage in the capital of the principal beneficiary of that coup d’état – Boris Yeltsin’s then-Secretary of State Gennady Burbulis; the “founding president” of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk; and the chairman of the Belarusian parliament, Stanislav Shushkevich. They were such a sad spectacle that it is much more interesting to look back at the history of their conspiracy at Viskuli, a hunting lodge for Soviet nomenklatura in Belarus 8 km off the Polish border, and the resulting direct consequences.

The document they drafted overnight and then signed was titled the Agreement on the Foundation of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which declared that the Soviet Union was to be dissolved and a new, non-supranational CIS association established. The meeting took place only one week after the Ukraine held its first presidential elections (won by Leonid Kravchuk, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Ukraine, with 61.6% of the vote) as well as a referendum on independence (reportedly attracting a voter turnout of 84.2%, 90.3% of whom voted in favor).

The Belavezha Accords, which were publicly announced the next morning, were a rude awakening for the majority of the country, despite an ongoing serious crisis in the nation that had been caused by six years of Mikhail Gorbachev’s short-sighted policies (although he deserved praise for his efforts to relieve international tensions and reduce the threat of a nuclear conflict between the superpowers, these achievements were strongly outweighed by his administration’s catastrophic bungling on the domestic front). Nevertheless, within days the Accords had been ratified by the Supreme Soviets (the highest legislative bodies) of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, without any evident public discussion and in violation of the current constitution of the RSFSR, which required a convention of the Congress of People’s Deputies in order to resolve any questions related to the system of governance. This hasty, reckless ratification can be blamed on the criminal weakness of the Soviet leadership, the total loss of public confidence in the policy of perestroika, the growing resurgence of nationalistic and new bourgeois sentiments in some key influential groups within Soviet society, and, of course, the general public’s idealistic naiveté about the realities of what lay ahead.

Every corner of that suffering country was soon confronted by the historical fallout from the intellectual sloth, complacency, and indolence of both the Soviet elites as well as the masses. The plummeting incomes, draconian privatization schemes that cherry-picked the most profitable Soviet industries, and the avalanche of criminal, separatist, extremist, and sectarian exploits that victimized almost every citizen of what had been until very recently a welfare state, in addition to the fate of the millions of Russians who went to bed one night in their own country only to wake up the next morning as residents of various hostile foreign nations – all these calamities forced Vladimir Putin, expressing the popular sentiments of the day, to call the breakup of the USSR “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the twentieth century.” Unsurprisingly, after only a few months the protagonists of the Belavezha Accords were roundly condemned by the public as well as the growing opposition in the newly independent states.

In July 1994 Stanislav Shushkevich ran in Belarus’s first presidential election, but had to abandon his campaign after the initial round of balloting, having received only 10% of the vote. A physics professor for more than 40 years, he later tried to head the insignificant social democratic Gromada party, but failed to win any seat in any Belarusian legislature. He resigned and emigrated to Poland, where he currently earns his 30 shekels lecturing on politics.

Leonid Kravchuk was forced to call early presidential elections in June 1994 when faced with a swas forced to call early presidential elections in June 1994 when faced with a severe economic crisis and widespread strikes by coal miners in the Donbass that had begun in mid-1993. He lost the elections in the second round to the “father of the Ukrainian oligarchy,” Leonid Kuchma, and took a seat in the Verkhovna Rada for the next 12 years until his Social Democratic Party failed to win the qualifying threshold of 3%. His biggest achievement since then has been his appearance on a series of commemorative postage stamps in honor of his 80th birthday in 2014.

Boris Yeltsin, the luckiest among the trio, departed this life peacefully in his bed in April 2007. A powerful, charismatic personality, he never lost an election, but – deeply remorseful about his role in the breakup of the USSR and consequent public unpopularity – during his last months in office he was evidently committed to finding an able successor to replace him in the Kremlin. On December 31, 1999 he announced his resignation, asked for public forgiveness, and presented the young PM Vladimir Putin as the front-runner for the Russian presidency in 2000…

Yeltsin’s closest aide in 1991, Gennady Burbulis, a half-Lithuanian born in the Urals, was a lecturer in Marxist dialectical materialism at the Polytechnic Institute in Sverdlovsk (now known as Yekaterinburg). Beginning in 1989 he, along with Boris Yeltsin, represented that city in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. According to many sources, Burbulis provided the principle intellectual foundation and motivation for Yeltsin’s battle for power and subsequent authorization of Yegor Gaidar’s ultra-liberal team to carry out the genocidal “reforms” in Russia. The collapse of that unpopular government and Gaidar’s resignation in December 1992 irrevocably undermined Burbulis’s influence on Yeltsin. He held several non-public sinecures in Russia until 2010 and eventually established a school of politosophy (his own neologism) in Moscow, which offers courses in vague, indeterminate subjects. He currently gives the impression of being a bit unhinged and in general plays the role of the village idiot. His odd speech and grimacing mannerisms recently on evidence in Washington should be of more professional interest to American psychiatrists than politicians.

So these are the political dwarves invited by the Atlantic Council to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the deal struck in Belavezha, the apogee of US triumphs in Soviet affairs. They are as meaningless today as the negligible results of the quarter-century of globalist aspirations to subjugate Russia’s natural resources and human spirit.

Germany wants to discuss Syrian issue with Russia in Minsk

http://tass.com/world/915251

According to German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, even if Syrian government forces regain control over the whole of Aleppo, that will not end the conflict

Germany is calling for the normalization of the humanitarian situation in Syria’s Aleppo and is going to discuss the issue with Russia during a meeting of the "Normandy Four" foreign ministers in Minsk, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said speaking at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum on Tuesday.

"I believe we will use the talks in Minsk with the Russian side to make sure that there is an opportunity to send humanitarian aid there (to Aleppo - TASS) within the next few days," he said.

Steinmeier voiced the conviction that, even if Syrian government forces regain control over the whole of Aleppo, that will not end the conflict. "I do not share this hope", the minister said. "The conflict will not stop because of what is currently happening on the battlefield in eastern Aleppo," he said.

Lavrov says Normandy Four ministerial meeting yields no breakthrough solutions

http://tass.com/politics/915415

At the same time, Lavrov stressed that the Normandy Four casts no doubts at the leaders agreements reached in Berlin and Paris earlier this year

The Normandy Four ministerial meeting has yielded no breakthrough solutions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday after talks with his counterparts from Germany, France and Ukraine in Minsk.

"The Minsk agreements are miring. It is even impossible to agree the sequence of steps," he said. "It is still impossible to agree the sequence of steps in the sphere of security and political reforms."

He said Ukraine is to blame for more violations in the security sphere and in what concerns weapons withdrawal than the self-proclaimed republics.

At the same time, Lavrov stressed that the Normandy Four casts no doubts at the leaders agreements reached in Berlin and Paris earlier this year.

Was Somalia involved in the September 11, 2001 attacks?

The outgoing Obama administration recently broadened the umbrella of the war on terror by placing the jihadist Somali group al-Shabaab (the youth) under armed conflict legislation drafted by Congress to target terrorist groups involved with the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Obama Redefines Terrorism to Expand Targeted Killings in Somalia
https://sputniknews.com/africa/201611291047946322-obama-expands-terror-group-legislation/

Shabab was not organized until after 2007, and as an entity could not have been involved in 9/11. Obama’s expansion will likely be used to legalize an escalation in counterrorism measures and airstrikes in support of the Somali government and the African Union.

The decision to target groups far from Al Qaeda’s base in Afghanistan is expected to be announced next month in a list of global deployments detailed in a letter to Congress. This major expansion has raised the eyebrows of anti-war activists and foreign policy experts, but it is not the first instance of the US relaxing its own self-imposed restrictions for battling militant groups abroad.

In a June letter to Congress Obama amended 9/11 legislation to include "associated forces" of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda who aimed to "achieve strategic effects," against the Afghan government. This also allowed Washington to "prevent a strategic defeat" of Afghan forces, effectively giving the US the ability to target groups who may not be a direct threat.

Al-Shabaab originated as a militant youth contingent of the Union of Islamic Courts, and is thought to have between 7,000-9,000 members. They have been responsible for many attacks in the area, including a particularly brutal incident in April 2015 in which 147 people stormed Garissa University, a school that sits near the Somali border, targeting Christian students and killing those who could not recite verses from the Q’uran.

Brian Becker, host of Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear, suggested that the broadening of this legislation is "not only a stretch, but an indication of a sweeping expansion, not only of executive power, but of the ability of the US government to dictate who lives and who dies. To decide who to strike, who to bomb, who to carry out targeted assassinations against. Not because they have anything to do with September 11," he said, "but because they constitute a threat not to the United States per se, but to the so-called ‘strategic objectives’ of America’s political partners either in Afghanistan or Somalia, or elsewhere, including Libya. Really anywhere in the world."

He called the move "wildly dangerous" and "obviously illegal," adding that US motives are increasingly about power over protection.

"The old cliche' goes 'allies come and go but interests are permanent,'" he told Sputnik in an interview, suggesting that, "The interests of the US government going around bombing other countries, carrying out targeted assassinations, is not in the interest of the people of the United states, it’s not protecting the people of the United States, it’s in pursuit of a global strategy of hegemony. In fact it makes the people of the United States less safe and not more safe."

Russian mobile field hospitals, which are set to be deployed in Syria’s Aleppo, will include a surgery department, intensive care unit, children's therapeutics department, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday.

Russia to Provide Surgical, Reanimation Service to Aleppo Residents

The ministry added that the number of pediatricians and obstetrics in the medical unit will be increased. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Russian Defense Ministry will send a special medical unit equipped with a multipurpose hospital for 100 patients, which has a children ward, while the Russian Emergencies Ministry will send a mobile field hospital for 50 patients, which can also provide ambulatory treatment for some 200 people per day.

The first group of militants has left the Syrian town of Khan al-Shih southwest of Damascus in the last 24 hours within the framework of a local ceasefire agreement with government forces, a military source told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

First Group of Militants Leaves Town Near Damascus Under Deal With Gov't
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201611291047966399-militants-damascus-truce/

The evacuation agreement between militants and government forces was proposed on Saturday. A 48-hour ceasefire was announced, after which the militants were allowed to leave for rebel-held territory in the Idlib province in the north of the country.

"The first group has already left Khan al-Shih together with their families. The rest will leave on Wednesday, they will go to the city of Idlib," the source said.

The same source said on Monday that the evacuation of more than 2,500 people from Khan al-Shih had started.

The Khan al-Shih offensive was launched by the Syrian army on October 1. Militants undertook numerous attempts to break the government forces siege throughout the several weeks of the offensive but ultimately failed despite being backed by artillery fire.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's bodyguards were injured in a militants' attack on the presidential convoy

Seven Duterte's bodyguards and two soldiers were injured in an attack by suspected Islamist militants ahead of his planned visit to the south of the country, AFP reported citing the president and the Armed Forces.

"My advance party was ambushed a while ago. The Presidential Security Group was hit by an IED [improvised explosive device]," Duterte said.

According to the Philippine Defense Ministry's spokesman, a bomb hit the soldiers' convoy in the region where the Maute militant group that had pledged allegiance to Daesh operated.

"But I'm going there. The advice was to postpone it [the visit], but I said no. We are taking the same route if possible," Duterte said. As a result of the attack in the city of Marawi, local soldiers and presidential communication office's staff members were also wounded. Currently, the Philippine forces conduct an operation in the Lanao del Sur province against 300 armed militants of the Maute group, which have gained control over several districts of the city of Butig.

Western countries are urging to impose sanctions against Russia after 80,000 civilians were liberated in Syria’s Aleppo, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said on Tuesday.

West threatens Russia over Syrian Army advance in Aleppo: Russian DM
https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/west-threatens-russia-syrian-army-advance-aleppo-russian-dm/

He recalled that, over the past 24 hours, the Syrian army had been able to liberate from militants almost half of eastern Aleppo where 80,000 civilians reside.

"Now it turned out that the release of over 80,000 Aleppo residents held hostage by gunmen was not part of the plans of the UK and French Foreign Ministries, the US Department of State and the German Bundestag. They even urged to impose new sanctions for that," the spokesman said.

According to Konashenkov, there are tens of thousands of children in the liberated areas. "Many of them were provided, for the first time in a long while, with food, drinking water and medical assistance in the humanitarian centers deployed by Russia. Over the past few years, these Syrians have been used as human shield by terrorists of every stripe and color in Aleppo. It was they who were allegedly protected by all Western politicians," he said.

Moments ago, an Israeli jet fired four longe-range 'Popeye' missile upon the government-held town of Al-Saboorah, west of Damascus.

Israeli jet carries out airstrike near Damascus
https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/breaking-israeli-jet-carries-airstrike-near-damascus/

The jet did not penetrate Syrian airspace but did allegedly breach Lebanese airspace in order to come within striking range of its designated target.

Although mere speculation for now, the Israeli airstrike likely intended to assassinate a senior Hezbollah figure due to Al-Saboorah's proximity to the Damascus-Beirut Highway, a main road often used by the Lebanese resistance movement.

On Monday, the Israeli Air Force also conducted an airstrike in the Syrian Golan Heights, targeting the ISIS-affiliated Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade.

UPDATE: The latest report (not confirmed by Al-Masdar's military sources) suggests the missiles struck a Hezbollah workshop for vehicles. No casualties reported as mechanics had retired for the night.

In a remarkable raid, two Turkish soldiers were taken captive by ISIS militants on the outskirts of al-Bab earlier today. Although details are vague, the Turkish troops were embedded with Syrian rebels fighting under the banner of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

Confirmed: ISIS captures two Turkish soldiers alive in Aleppo province
https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/confirmed-isis-captures-two-turkish-soldiers-alive-aleppo-province/

The incident took place near the village of Dana (northwest of Al-Bab) and was first alleged by Amaq Agency on Tuesday afternoon but later confirmed by Ankara. According to Turkey's Ministry of National Defence, the Turkish Armed Forces have "lost contact" with the two soldiers who's fate is now in the hands of the Islamic State.

At least 17 Turkish soldiers have been killed during operation 'Euphrates Shield', a rebel offensive which has seized large swaths of territory along the Turkish-Syrian border from ISIS and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Yesterday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) also conducted a major push en route to Al-Bab, an Islamic State stronghold which is now threatened by several belligerents.

Erdoğan admits that the Turkish military launched its operations in Syria to end the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Erdogan goes off script, admits that Turkey entered Syria to “end the rule” of Assad
http://theduran.com/erdogan-goes-off-script-admits-that-turkey-entered-syria-to-end-the-rule-of-assad/

Turkish President Erdogan is breaking ranks with the western/NATO narrative on Syria and is saying things that will make Jerry & Co. cringe.

As Assad inches closer to freeing Aleppo from US/Saudi/Turkish sponsored ISIS-Al Qaeda jihadists, Erdogan appears to be entering panic mode…and this is where the Turkish leader can become a major headache for all the parties bogged down in the Syria quagmire.

Turkish newspaper Hurriyet Daily reports on some very controversial comments made by Erdogan at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul…

“In my estimation, nearly 1 million people have died in Syria. These deaths are still continuing without exception for children, women and men. Where is the United Nations? What is it doing? Is it in Iraq? No. We preached patience but could not endure in the end and had to enter Syria together with the Free Syrian Army [FSA].”

“Why did we enter? We do not have an eye on Syrian soil. The issue is to provide lands to their real owners. That is to say we are there for the establishment of justice We entered there to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn’t enter] for any other reason.”

So there you have it. Erdogan going off script and admitting that the entire operation in Syria was never about ISIS or Daesh, never was a civil war of any kind…but was a straight up and straight out regime change operation.

A western-NATO backed coup against the leader of a sovereign country.

Erdogan did not only stop at explaining the real reasons behind the Syrian war, but also went further to condemn the UN and the Security Council. Via Hurriyet Daily…

Erdoğan also said the U.N. could not provide justice with its current structure, suggesting that all continents and all belief groups around the world should be represented at the Security Council apart from the five permanent members. The president has constantly voiced his criticism on the structure of the Security Council, saying “the world is bigger than five,” referring to the number of permanent members.

As Turkey’s operation inside Syria continues, an offensive by the Syrian government with the help of its allies on the besieged parts of eastern Aleppo continued on Nov. 29, pushing rebels to pull back to a more defensible front line after losing control of a key district.

Erdogan is hitting the panic button, as the Syrian army, with Russian and Iranian backing, have liberated more than 80,000 civilians trapped in East Aleppo by ISIS jihadists, coincidently funded and trained across the border in Turkey. Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov said in a statement…

During the last 24 hours, thanks to very well-prepared and careful actions, Syrian soldiers were able to radically change the situation.”

“Practically half of the territory occupied by rebels in recent years in the eastern part of Aleppo has been completely liberated.”

President Erdogan of Turkey has issued a statement saying his troops have entered Syria with the intention of ousting President Assad.

Turkey invades Syria to remove Bashar al-Assad (Video)
http://theduran.com/urgent-turkey-invades-syria-remove-bashar-al-assad/

Turkey has been illegally running soldiers, artillery and infantry in and out of Syria for much of the duration of the present conflict. Now, however, the proxy and shadow war, which Turkey has been waging against the Syrian Arab Republic, has just become official.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has just announced that Turkish troops have entered Syria with the intention of removing President Assad from power. It is a formal declaration of war.

If this threat is genuine, the person who could lose power might not be Assad but Erdogan himself. This summer’s poorly organised coup attempt in Turkey was brought about by deep divisions in Turkish society, divisions sowed by Erdogan’s extreme and often manic policies. Although Erdogan has retaliated severely against many of the coup leaders and supporters, his position is far from being as stable as he might dream that it is.

Erdogan’s announcement comes shortly after Russia and Turkey reconciled following a period of highly strained diplomatic relations as a result of Turkey downing a Russian jet over Syria in 2015.

Part of the reconciliation agreement made between Presidents Putin and Erdogan, stated that the two countries will cooperate over Syria. If Turkey aims to use her military to oust Assad, this agreement is as good as dead, and what’s more, by declaring war on the legitimate government of Syria, Turkey is by extrapolation, declaring war on Russia.

The flippancy with which Erdogan conducts foreign policy may well be his undoing. He is clearly fearful that when Donald Trump takes office, all of the major international players will be stacked against the mutual ambition of Turkey and the terrorists operating in Syria to remove Assad.

Erdogan is likely considering this as well as the fact that his attempt to gain a major foothold in northern Iraq isn’t going as planned. The western led coalition against ISIS in Mosul isn’t making the progress its leaders anticipated. Moreover, the Kurdish forces who Turkey has entered Iraq to eliminate, seem to be fighting rather better than Turkey and her US-European allies.

Equally crucial is the continued floundering of the so-called Free Syrian Army, a name generally assigned to the anti-government terrorists in Syria who are working most closely with Turkey. Since they seem incapable of doing Turkey’s bidding, Turkey may be looking to do the job themselves.

Not since America threatened to impose a no-fly zone over Syria, something which would have grounded Russian and Syrian planes, has the situation in Syria come so close a major fight between large powers.

There are, however, two areas from which hope can be derived. First of all, Erdogan is known for blustery, bellicose and threatening rhetoric, aimed more at his domestic supporters than an international audience. This could be one of those instances.

Secondly, members of the Russian government, perhaps even President Putin himself, must speak directly with Erdogan and explain the full consequences of his actions. It could bring Turkish troops into direct conflict with not only Russian and Syria armed forces but also with those of Iran and Hezbollah.

With the US all but conceding ground in the conflict, as the Syrian and Russian forces make staggering breakthroughs in Aleppo, Turkish forces could rapidly find themselves outnumbered by opponents as worthy as they are angry.

If things go badly for Turkey in Syria, it could lead to a far more organised coup against Erdogan, one that he might not see off. Erdogan has time and again proved to be something of a madman. His next move will determine whether or not he is also a stupid man.

Recent statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his intention to depose his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad does not mean that Ankara's forces would fight against the Syrian Armed Forces, the Russian upper house of parliament's defense committee chair said Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Turkish president said at a symposium in Istanbul that the Turkish armed forces' military operation in Syria was designed to put an end to the rule of Assad.

"I think that Erdogan had hardly had in mind warfare against the [Syrian] army supported by Russia. Moreover, the head of such a respectable state can not completely change his policy once in three months. There will be no u-turn in Turkey as for our goals to destroy terrorism," Viktor Ozerov told reporters. Ozerov added that his position was based on the facts that Turkey had sent its troops to Syria in summer, but not just before Erdogan's speech, as well as the president had made the statement at the symposium, but not at the session of any government body.

According to the lawmaker, Erdogan's words about the Syrian leader should not be taken literally and could be interpreted as creation of conditions for the Syrian nation to make a decision about its future on its own.

The United States, the United Kingdom, France and the United Nations have not yet offered humanitarian relief to 90,000 Aleppo citizens, liberated from militants two days ago, the Russian Defense Ministry’s spokesman said Wednesday.

"Two days after over 90,000 Aleppo residents were freed from terrorists, no offer of humanitarian assistance came from the office of UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, the British and French Foreign Ministries or the US State Department," the ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

Konashenkov reminded about the previous US, UK, UN and French demands to provide humanitarian access to eastern Aleppo when it was held by the militants. "Apparently, the [humanitarian] assistance was destined for certain other people living in the eastern parts of Aleppo," Konashenkov said highlighting the absence of the above-mentioned sides' interest in providing civilians with humanitarian aid after all the necessary conditions for the aid delivery had been created.

Russia said on Wednesday that the delivery of humanitarian aid by the UN in Syria is politicized as most UN help was going to militant-held areas.

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters in her press briefing in Moscow that only 1 percent of UN aid was being directed to Deir Ezzur, where she said at least 200,000 people were trapped by ISIL militants and in need of supplies, Sputnik reported.

Zakharova said Moscow has repeatedly introduced humanitarian pauses in Aleppo to help civilians however the militants use the truce to regroup and replenish arms and ammunition, stressing that such issue is politicized.

However, she said that Moscow is ready to work with all international humanitarian organizations on the issue of humanitarian aid delivery.

“We strongly believe that humanitarian issues should not become a tool for political pressure or serve as means of flirting with terrorists or shielding them.”

Syria's state TV reported on Wednesday that the Israeli warplanes attacked Western Damascus after violating Lebanon's airspace.

A military source at the defense ministry said that the Israeli fighter jets flew over and violated the Lebanese airspace early Wednesday morning and fired two missiles at al-Saboura region in the Western parts of Damascus.

He added that the attack didn’t leave any tolls and was aimed at strengthening the terrorist groups' morale and undermine the psychological impacts of the Syrian army victories.

Earlier this month, the general command of the Syrian army and armed forces announced that an Israeli warplane launched an attack on one of the military sites in Quneitra, destroying a cannon and damaging another.

“This attack comes after the success of our armed forces, in cooperation with popular defense groups in thwarting a wide attack carried out by Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Nusra Front) terrorist organization on Hadar and its surroundings in Quneitra, killing tens of terrorists and inflicting heavy losses on them in arms and equipment,” the statement said.
