Problem with sharing on Facebook

Reasently there have been some of the sharings from SOTT that are missing the Title, ingress and image and only show "www.sott.net". I have checked out the Open Graph metadata and everything looks OK in the html-code. So the problem seems to be Facebooks cashing of the article.

It seems like FB have some problem here, but I found a fix than works. If a article shows up without the correct info when you try to share it, copy the URL of the article and and paste it into the "Open Graph Object Debugger" found here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

Press "Fetch new scrape information" and FB are updating its catch and now shows the correct metadata when you share it.

I've had that issue as well in the past so am glad to see that there may be a solution. Thanks for sharing, Aquilla! :)

Ditto to that.

Looking to test it.

Hmm thanks, but I tried it and don't know if it worked. It seems to have the same SOTT logo when I post it again. I did it for: http://www.sott.net/article/289655-Interview-with-Dmitry-Orlov-Russias-patience-is-wearing-thin

I remember when you used to post a SOTT article on FB you could pick among a few pictures that were in the article. Now it just shows the SOTT logo. Nothing against the logo, but it seems the custom pictures would be catchier and more relevant.

Hi 3D Student,

The article you shared doesn't have any image. That's why it falls back to the SOTT logo.

In general, to have the best image on FB shares, articles should have an image with width at least 600px.

I have the opportunity to test it for more than 3 articles and it works very well.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Yes that seems to be happening quite often on Facebook recently.
If you use the link that Aquilla provided you sometimes have to click "Fetch new scrape information" several times before it works. But even then it doesn't work all the time.

When you have clicked on "Fetch new scrape information" , you have to go to "When shared, this is what will be included" which is a little bit lower and you will see the sentence "Based on included and inferred properties, the above preview is what users will see when they share this url. See this in the share dialog.". Then you click on "See this in the share dialog" and it would be published correctly.

I should've scrolled down to reread your message. I just tried this and unliked the article, refreshed it and when I liked it anew, it showed the correct information. Anway, it does work. Thanks, Aquilla! :flowers:
