3 dead, 20 injured after car rams into pedestrians in Melbourne, Australia

At least 3 people have been killed and 20 more injured after a vehicle was driven into a crowd of people in the center of Australia's second largest city Melbourne.

The incident happened at about 1:30pm local time near Bourke and Elizabeth streets in Melbourne's city centre emergency services said. An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed that several people were struck by a car while Victoria Police said a number of people had been injured in the incident.

“At this stage it is believed a man driving a vehicle has struck a number of pedestrians in Bourke and Queens St just before 2pm,” police said via Twitter.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the events are still being determined and we will provide further information when it comes to hand,” a police spokeswoman said.

Police added that emergency services are assisting “multiple patients” with at least one person “confirmed deceased.”

“Paramedics are treating up to 20 people injured when they were hit by a car in Bourke Street in the CBD,” Victoria Ambulance said, adding that “some have serious injuries.”

The cause of the incident is yet unclear. Several media reports suggest police units were chasing a rogue car when the vehicle ploughed through a crowd. Police reportedly fired shots before they seized the driver of the rogue vehicle.

Conflicting reports suggest the driver has either been detained or shot dead by police.

Emergency services are treating the incident as a “mass casualty event,” while hospitals have been put on “Code Red”, according to the Australian.

Two separate incidences reported of a vehicle ramming into a crowd. One in Germany and another in New Orleans, USA.

A man apparently armed with a knife rammed a car into pedestrians in the center of the German city of Heidelberg on Saturday, local N24 TV channel reported citing police. Three are reportedly injured.

Sat. 25.02.2017 - After the incident that occurred at some 16:00 p.m. local time, German police reportedly shot the man after he attempted to flee. Currently, the man is in a hospital.

One pedestrian wounded in the incident is in a critical condition. Media reports suggested that the man was armed with a knife.

The man who drove a black Opel was intercepted by a police patrol and shot by a law enforcer after a short standoff.

A police spokesman David Faulhaber told Sputnik that he "can neither confirm nor deny" that the incident is a terror attack. He also could not say whether those injured are the city's citizens or not.

German prosecution brought murder charges on Sunday against a man suspected of intentionally driving a car into a crowd outside a Heidelberg cafe, the local police announced.

Sun. 26.02.2017 - The man, who police said was a German student with no criminal record, is receiving medical treatment after he was shot in the stomach in a foot chase. The car-ramming injured three people, one of whom later died.

"An arrest warrant has been issued for a 35-year-old man at the request of Heidelberg prosecutor’s office on suspicion of one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing serious bodily harm," the statement read.

Police said his motives were still unclear and he had not commented on them during the initial questioning, but there was no indication this was a terrorist attack. The man will stay under police surveillance until he is moved to a prison hospital.

More than a dozen are reported injured, many critically, after a pickup truck smashed through a crowd watching the Krewe of Endymion parade in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sun. 26.02.2017 - Officials say 28 were injured in the incident, and 21 taken to local hospitals. The youngest victim was just three years old, according to reports.

"Initial reports show so far about a dozen people are in critical condition," police spokeswoman Ambria Washington said, the Daily Star reports. "That number could increase as the investigation is ongoing."

The incident occurred as the parade began to pass through the intersection of Carrollton Avenue and Orleans Street, witnesses said. It is unclear if it was a deliberate attack as some witnesses describe the driver of the gray truck that careened into onlookers as seeming "drunk" and "out of it."

Police chief Michael Harrison said one person had been taken into custody and was being investigated for drunk driving, the Guardian reports. Police do not believe terrorism was a motivation for the incident.

The parade is part of the run up to the city's huge annual Mardi Gras celebration.

Maybe a 'copycat'? This occurred at the beginning of the year (Jan 20th 2017). Since then, we seem to have had an increase in vehicles being used as weapons.

Re: Possible terrorist attack in Australia: breaking

Just to update on this incident, this occurred on a sunny summer day on the busiest intersection in Melbourne, which is a large city and everybody is in holiday mode and out doing Christmas shopping, and the time of day was when most workers would be knocking off work and wending their way home.

The vehicle, an SUV was doing an estimated 80 to 100 kmh when it ran into pedestrians and came to a sudden stop when it hit a concrete tram stop. Bypassers immediately jumped into action so that each of the victims had about four people attending them, and about ten people jumped onto the offending vehicle and arrested the driver and his passenger. A few minutes later the police arrived on the scene, followed by ambulances and paramedics.

Fourteen people have been hospitalised, four of them are critical, and one victim is just a toddler.
The police have locked the area down and nobody is getting in or out, they have intimated that this is being treated as a deliberate act.

At French Sputnik they say that the police said he was under dope and had psychological problems. They also say that he is from Afganistan and has 32 years.

Maybe they don't want to scare the people saying this is a terrorist attack ?

If you allow large numbers of immigrants from countries that Western powers have embroiled in war for years, among those people will be those traumatized by war and easily manipulated and susceptible to propaganda. Expect more of this in all countries that accept refugees from war zones.

Indeed, let alone that western intelligence services are happy to support, oblige or keep an eye closed whenever migrants are planning to carry out an attack. Saves them the trouble of carrying it out themselves under a 'false flag.'
