Inspiring video: woman's leg was saved by cold water therapy
« on: February 17, 2017, 01:45:59 PM »
This video is about a Finnish woman whose leg was apparently saved by cold water therapy.

From the description:
"After a downhill biking accident, Johanna Nordblad thought she might lose her leg. Doctors had to leave the fracture open for 10 days to avoid necrosis. In a last ditch effort, to save the limb, they tried a painful cold-water treatment.

That experience, eventually, led her to develop a passion for swimming under frozen lakes -- just holding her breath. Today, she holds the world-record for freediving 50-meters under ice wearing only a swimsuit."

A beautiful video, and recent, too. I wasn't sure whether to post this in the "suggest an article for SOTT" section, but it would pair nicely with an article about cold therapy, or could go by itself in the "lighten up" section, maybe.
Every day I destroy countless lives to fuel my own; I must heal myself for their sake.

It made me a bit nervous to watch this. Swimming under a frozen lake like that seems kind of dangerous. But that can you teach you discipline in all kinds of positive ways I suppose.

That said, it amazes me how she turned her horrible experience into something she loves doing.
