Hello...

I'm a little at a loss here. My boy had a mild cold from a month back now. But after a checkup with the doctor he was diagnosed with a mild ear infection. right away he was put on antibiotics and after a week it hasn't changed. So naturally he prescribed him some ear drops, ciprobay-hc. After first time use he cried a lot and was in obvious shock. and after comforting he slept for like 3 hours straight for nap time.
I tested the drops on my self and it was unpleasant to say the least. It made my ear very sensitive. i decided to throw the drops away and i really want to quit the antibiotics too. Does anybody have any advice. I've heard of putting little garlic pits wrapped in cloth on the ear. Am i doing the right thing? i really want to drop the antibiotics.

You could try a local health food store and try a more natural alternative. Garlic may work and I have heard of but never used garlic oil ear drops so the garlic idea may be spot on.

Tell ya what, I've got five kids and also had repeated ear infections as a child myself. The baby cried because you didn't warm the drops. Do NOT play around with ear infections. I've never found a "natural remedy" that works once the infection is started. Use the drops, do NOT discontinue the antibiotics or you'll create a superbug. Afterward, start dealing with diet issues so this doesn't happen again.

You might want to consider vitamin C, as not only will it help to fight the infection, but it will also boost up the antibiotic germicidal effect. It might have been a virus which they usually get over-infected with bacteria if they don't heal properly. The good think about vitamin C is that it takes care of viruses as well.

Small children that age can take 500mg. Here is a link with some more information about the doses:

Yeah. I have lifelong hearing damage in one ear from an ear infection when I was around 6 years old that led to a ruptured ear drum. You really want to avoid that sort of thing.

Over thirty years ago my young daughter(at the time) would get one ear infection after another. The Dr. gave stronger antibiotics each time. The antibiotics were messing with her general health. I talked to a nutritionist at the local health food store who told me about a product called Michael`s ear remedy. The ingredients were Garlic oil and Goldenseal. She told me I needed to replace the bad bacteria with good bacteria. Also I cut out dairy. In a day I could see a difference in her well being. Warming the ear remedy by putting the bottle in a pan of warm water first is recommended. A warm heating pad is also comforting.
My daughter never had another ear infection.

Kids with a diet rich in sugar gets twice the amount of antibiotics for ear infections compared to kids with a sugar low diet, according to a danish study that I don't have handy. :)

Today I went to see my homeopath to thank her for the medication she gave me for my flu that was splendid. She also told me that these drops are also excellent for ear infection:

From the brand of Dr.Reckeweg, R1 Anginacid.

Homeopathy works miracles for kids, my homeopath always tells me how kids react so positively with homeopathy!

You won't get better advice than this! I use a hearing aid as a result of severe damage due to recurring infections as a child - and they were properly treated. The anatomy of the ear is so delicate that it can be irreparably damaged very quickly, so as Laura advises do not play around with this one.

The key is in the highlighted words. Dairy quite simply is evil for children.

Thanks to everybody. Much appreciated.

will continue with the stuff the dr. prescribed. Will heat the drops and continue with the antibiotics. Also will try to get him off dairy. Its just that it will be his second week on antibiotics then and i feel its really bad for him. But im not going to mess wiht his ears.

Thanks again for all the reassurance.

Fact is cow`s milk is meant for calves!

Actually, the pasteurized, homogenized, hormone-laden industrial glop sold on the shelves as "milk" would probably kill a calf.

Make sure the drops are just barely warm.

Yes, antibiotics are not the best thing, but there are worse things. And if you have a clue, you can work to rebalance his system afterward. The main thing is to cut out all the things that contribute to poor health in children. There are many studies showing that dairy products are strongly correlated to ear infections. A high carb diet also.

So many of us have suffered with ear infections and our children, too, and we did not know the causes. Things can go very bad very fast with an ear infection. Not only that, they are very, very painful. There are two times in my life when I actually struck a doctor - just a reflexive reaction to incredible pain - and one of them was when she took hold of my ear and pulled it to get the otoscope in there. I was an adult at the time, too! I took a boatload of antibiotics for years, and used an ocean of ear-drops. Only when I changed my diet did I stop having problems. Same for my kids and their ears.
