I 've just seen this movie and I was pleasantly surprised with the twist in the plot with some vague reference to SHTOW i.e. origins of pyramid people. I really enjoyed it.
It is a visually dazzling spectacle with superb effects and I recommend it as light entertainment.

Based on your comments Deckard, I saw the movie, and it was very entertaining.
The reviews only gave it a 5.4 out of 10, but I would give it an 8.

It's important to note that this movie's director is Roland Emmerich, who also directed The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, and Stargate.

The plot follows the Quest of an archetypal Hero figure (as Campbell describes it in his book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces). Just this aspect alone makes the movie very entertaining, very much akin to LotR and Star Wars. The context in which it's set, however, makes the movie unique as it gives it an interesting twist.

As Deckard pointed out, the revisionist history aspect of this movie is phenomenal. Here's a few things that stood out for me that readers of this forum might find appealing:
- the evil pyramid builders are said to have "descended from the sky" or are the survivors of a civilization that was overcome by a flood (Atlantis?)
- they are a pathocratic minority that rule by fear, superstition, and by the establishment of an illusion of immortality in the minds of the less-civilized masses; their leader embodies a number of psychopathic traits
- the solution to the conflict against the pathocratic regime comes via networking, teamwork, and the dissemination of knowledge

I tried not to give away too much in the above, but I did want to say enough to encourage people to watch this film.
All in all, highly recommended - I liked it a lot!

I just saw it today. Definitely worth seeing. Thanks, Deckard, for the heads-up, or I would have missed it.

Orion also plays an interesting role. As well as siberian-style shamanism. It seems like a good allegory for our times. Interesting techniques for overthrowing the evil pyramid people.

Saw this today and besides the pretty good special effects I found the story lacking and a little slow. Personally I'd wait until this came out of video.

Saw it yesterday, and I found it quite dull. I'm not a History expert, but the movie's so historically inaccurate it's laughable - not that I'm bothered by total accuracy in movies (Braveheart, for ex, contained some inaccuracies, and I love that movie because it's so well-made) but here it's so badly depicted - totally kitsch and cheesy (I mean, those cardboard sceneries :O) - and the plot/scenario is so weak, the characters so superficial that you have to shake your head in dismay (or laugh ).
Some of the movie's inaccuracies are listed here: _http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/BC.htm

Even if one forgets about History and just looks for a pure light entertainement / fantasy movie, 10,000 BC fell short -- for me.

For a depiction of psychopathic civilization, my advice is "go for Apocalypto"! But that's just my opinion :)
