Just finished watching this movie and it was really good I felt! :)

*******SPOILER ALERT*******

Basically this guy Aron Ralston gets his arm stuck between a rock in a very small canyon and he can't get it loose, forcing him to weigh up his limited options. He eventually amputates his arm after six days days stuck in the remote blue john canyon in Utah USA, and it's a pretty gruesome scene to be quite Frank. Aron loses forty pounds in body weight, 25% of his blood supply and was on the verge of death at the end.

What I found interesting was the Esoteric significance of his journey. He battled his own negative thoughts and panic to objectively analyse what he could actually do about his situation, using what he could reach as tools to help him survive that bit longer. The physical aspect such as the cold wind and his very uncomfortable position he had to stand in for six days, having no sleep and resorting to drinking his own urine to make it through. Somehow he made it and the thing that stood out for me was that he appeared to have crystallised something permanent in him, a real 'I', in having experienced the emotional, mental and physical stress he endured.

"127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he can be rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers, family, and the two hikers he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? Written by Fox Searchlight Pictures"

I saw it the other day as well.

Paragon, it may be a good idea to modify your post and write a "spoiler alert" after your first sentence ;)

*****Spoiler Alert******

The scene where he cuts his arm is indeed gruesome. I couldn't watch it neither could my partner, we had to fast forward the movie at that part, it was just gut wrenching, horrific and other such names I can't think of right now. Until today I still have images of that scene coming to mind, even though I was fast forwarding.
I'm not sure of what to make of the movie because of that.

Oops! My eagerness to express myself got the better of moi! :-[ sorry if anyone got spoiled there :(

Yeah that arm scene was horrific, the way it was filmed and the accompanying sound effects made it all that bit worse! I was definitely cringing and not really looking at that point. I almost was feeling it as he was doing it! Apparently some audience members fainted at that scene! I'm not surprised tbh though.

I think what else makes it inspirational for me is that Aron climbed mountains and stuff after his ordeal!
