1984 - 1948

I just realized that it's kind of peculiar that a book called 1984 contains a description of a country which behaves very closely to what Israel does now.

So what's peculiar about that? Israel was founded in 1948.

It is funny that you bring that up. Because I read somewhere (some time ago) that the book was originally to be called 1948!!!
But apparently because of the closeness to developments in Germany Orwell was pressured to project his story further into the future.
