2/11/2011 Tokyo Killing Spree announced on net message board

The Force is Strong With This One
My wife came upon this article ( http://rocketnews24.com/?p=72377 ) yesterday & I think this might be the most appropriate place for it on this forum.
I translated it from Japanese as best I could, leaving out the first paragraph as it just seemed to state what the posts' claims. In any case, stay safe folks!

Tokyo Killing Spree announced on Net Message Board: "We're gonna do it. More will die then at the Akihabara Massacre"

The message board posts read as follows:
"On February 11th, right at 9 pm (2/11, 2011, 21pm). I & two others will randomly kill people at Shinjuku station (outside the New South exit, down the stairs next to the highway bus entrance). Those who do not wish to 'join in the game' should not come."

"We're gonna do it. More will die then at the Akihabara Massacre"
[The Akihabara Massacre refers to this: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Akihabara_massacre]

"Our group of 3 will kill pedestrians. It's gonna be fun!!!!!"

"One will run down people in a car, the other two will knife passersby"

"On the day of the attack we will post again!! We can't do a real life hookup but we will most likely post back here an hour before the event!!! [I didn't quite understand the first part of this sentence so I translated pretty literally]"

Apparently this is the original board these messages appeared on: http://yokoku.in/detail?num=21639

Later on the same board they also claimed "We are 3 men, ages 29, 27 & 30. You'll know more about us after we're arrested!" implying that they were expecting to be caught by the police.

Another user on the board asked "What do you hope to accomplish with this?"

The original posters answered "We just simply wanna kill people."

When asked about their occupation, they claimed to work with computers.

Other users strongly attempted to dissuade them from carrying out the attack but the culprits replied enthusiastically "No way!!!"

Please exercise extreme caution this Friday if in the area. Even if nothing becomes of the announcement, it is criminal/terrible act to state such a thing. Hopefully those involved will be caught...

I certainly hope this is just a prank, albeit a very sick one, but you never really know! Avoid Shinjuku station - just in case these sickos are serious.

Hi Phosphene,

Perhaps it's a prank but I see no harm if you inform the local police. Call from a public phone if you feel a bit uncomfortable of being traced.

Reminds me of the not-quite-right kids waaaay back in my kindergarten.

They'd make big claims for the attention value, (or something. It was hard to tell. They were not-quite-right. And they grew up and joined the work force, no doubt, becoming model citizens. Lots of bizarre wildlife out there in the normal human world.)

I recall an article in which a confirmed psychopath explained that the normal human goes through a number of physiological changes when stressed due to bullying and verbal attacks, and that he did things to deliberately trigger those responses for his own psychopath reasons. To wear down his victims over time and milk them of their life force, I would say.

This killing-spree threat sounds like a similar thing, though coming from adults or even teens, this is unusual behavior. Sounds like something quite wrong.

Basically, just yuck.

Hopefully Japanese law allows for the arrest these creeps for making such threats. It's not quite the same as crying "Fire" in a crowded place or "Bomb" in an airport. Still, I'd be surprised if the law couldn't prove itself useful in this instance.

Agreed. If it's a prank the police can at least warn them off doing it again. If its not then its a good thing you told them.

Yes indeed Vulcan59 & RedFox, very good advice. Luckily the police have been looking into the matter & the Japanese authorities are really strict about instances like this.

As you all said, hopefully it is indeed just a hoax! In anycase, I know I'll be staying away from the area & have been suggesting my friends/coworkers do the same just to be safe. It seems most people are aware of the news before I mention it though so that's a good sign. Today is also a nation holiday in Japan so hopefully people will find other places to spend the evening. (Or just say in. It's quite nasty out today!)

Hello again all. Thought I'd give a small update on the situation as the announced time has passed.
As there has been no further news on the incident it appears to have been a hoax. Thank goodness!
