Martinsville - A mayor has suspended without pay two central Indiana police officers accused of slapping an unruly 10-year-old boy and shocking the child with a Taser gun.

Martinsville Mayor Phil Deckard said he acted Monday against Capt. Bill Jennings and Patrolman Darren Johnson after an internal investigation turned up evidence they violated department policy.

Both were on paid administrative leave. Neither have listed home telephone numbers and couldn't be reached for comment.

They were called March 30 to a day care center where the boy hit, kicked and spit on a caretaker. The officers tried to restrain the boy and Jennings slapped him, but he remained combative and kicked Johnson, police have said. Johnson then shocked the child.

The boy suffered no significant injuries.

Martinsville is about 25 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

This is a follow up article on the tasering of the ten year old boy. Evidently a protocol was overlooked or not done, and both officers are now suspended without pay.
