3D Pencil Art

Saw this on a friend's facebook.... quite surreal. Similar to the 3d art that is done on sidewalks, but done in pencil in a notebook. It is so well done I thought I'd share it here. It's amazing how "3D" it looks, it pops right out at you!

Some of my favs:

Some of his stuff is a little macabre but there's more here:

These drawings are very creative, well-rendered and great care was taken to photograph them in ways that emphasize their three-dimensional qualities to create optical illusions. I was disappointed not to be able to find "Fredo" on Facebook so I could compliment him(?) on these talents personally. Thanks for posting them, fabric! They got my attention and held my interest nicely!

Very creative. Thanks for sharing fabric. :) The artist goes by the name of Wladimir Inostroza and has a blog that can be viewed here. On FB, he goes by the name Fredo and his work can be viewed here.

Cool, truly one step beyond. You got a gift, and thanks 4 sharing it fabric! :D

amazing. Very difficult to imagine that it is 3D pencil drawing. thanks for sharing.

Make that a double thanks, fabric and Vulcan59.

Very good drawing technique and some interesting compositions too. The figure with the bald head was most striking, with an H R Giger translucent look to the final image, really creepy.

I bet these pictures take a fair while in the pre-planning department also, because to truly work in 3d they have to look visually interesting from every concievable angle....within reason of course. It reminds me now a little of the attempts by graphics artists in the 1980's when they attempted to create 3d imaging in arcade games with 2d sprite-based graphics....creating the illusion of mass and form, solidity. Creating an illusion of three dimensionality on a 2d plane.

Really fun, I would never have the patience to attempt something like that. Oooh.... the dominoes, very Escher! :cool2:

Thanks for the links, Vulcan59! His other works are also fun to see!! :)

Cool, thanks for sharing. I thought the first one was a pop-up book or sculpture :P. I wonder if 4D beings try to create the illusion of 4 dimensions on a 3d surface? ;)

Ha ha, I've wondered that too! But I guess we wouldn't be able to see it since we are not 4d.... I've seen graphical representations of hyper cubes, but what does it really look like?

I've tried to visualise the New Mexico area going 4d after reading that section of The Wave, and it was quite thrilling to do so, although a little brief. Dimensions, densities, they boggle my mind!!!!
