A bit Nuts

Mr Meowgi

The Cosmic Force
I don't know if it's the wave or what but I kinda feel like a caged lion with more ideas than I know what to do with. My diet is decent, perhaps not perfect but no Kung pow chicken, white bread, chips soda ect. As much organic meat and such as I can get in the good ole USA A doctor would say I am on a Bipolar high but I want a second opinion. Any and all comments welcome. Thanks Mr. Meowgi.

Hi Mr Meowgi

There's just not much information to go off in your post.

You're feeling manic? Are you already diagnosed bi-polar? Have you already had the 'first opinion' before looking for a second one? Are you finding it difficult to cope with things or are things going really well for you and you're anticipating a crash?

We could just use some context or a bit of back story or something; so that we can understand exactly what it is that you're wanting help with.

I am diagnosed bipolar, have been for 6 years. I am at current on lamotrigine, generic for Lamictal. Now I would like to try to manage this without meds if possible. Being on a manic high has its advantages as I feel like I can be a better channel for all that is. The downside is being a bit nuts and out of control. I know I cannot control this thing without help, so I am reaching out to find a shaman for some guidance. I myself fall into the shaman category, among other things. Thanks for the interest in helping me with this issue. Meowgi

It's not uncommon for people with Bipolar to really enjoy the times when they are manic. Most of the Bipolar peeps I've worked with loved being manic because of all the energy they had. However, the only reason they were talking to me is because they got themselves into trouble or ended up having a psychotic episode which explained why they were in the hospital and talking to me.

I would recommend you see your doctor and get their opinion. If you want to see a shaman or some type of alternative practitioner maybe that's something you can do after you come down a bit.

I see my Dr. the 14th of the month. Thanks for the input. I have a wonderful wife that knows exactly what is going on as well and makes sure I do not get myself into trouble or hospitalized ( been there done that don'y want to do it again ). The moon is waning so that seems to be helping a bit. Took the day off from life today for the most part. Slowing down as much as possible without stopping till I see the Dr. Thanks again! Meowgi.

A few general suggestions that are pretty basic and totally doable, MM. Do you take the time to journal and put your thoughts to paper? It's a great way to get your ideas to stop their buzzing, and just give them the expression they're clamoring for. After some time of this, you may notice that YOU are the one who has the ideas, and not they that have you so to speak.

Exercise is another way to metabolize a lot of the energy that makes you feel like a caged lion. Try and make a point of doing something manageable, like just a couple of times a week - but that requires a bit of effort and discipline. You'll feel 'in your body' more as a result, and no doubt kickstarting all kinds of processes that are physiologically good for your mind.

And pipe breathing too. You shouldn't be doing the baha portion of EE of course, but making a point of doing pipe breathing every day could definitely help give you some clarity and calm. Get that vagus nerve stimulated. :)

But the important thing regarding these tools is to be consistent and diligent about using them, as much as possible anyway. In this way you'll be laying some ground work and making a space for the 'shamanic' influences that may be found here, and in other places. Good luck!

I second all advice given so far, especially using pipe breathing for dealing with whatever stressors you face daily. Try to do the 3-stage-breathing and the meditation/Prayer of the Soul from the EE program, everynight before going to bed. See if that helps you have deep, non-interrupted and relaxing sleep. The better quality of sleep you get might help balance your brain chemistry a bit, so that the lows are not as low and the highs not as high. Of course, do not try to get off your medication until you talk to your doctor about it first, and you create together a plan, as Odyssey suggested.

Exercise, yes I golf every chance I get. I use a cart but, 18 holes or so of golf even with a cart is generally three hours outside. I have not written a journal in sometime but I write music and write my ideas down to give them life. I seem to be very sensitive to everything. I mean everything. I am also very careful, to the point of being O.C.D. Any and all advice is highly appreciated and I will look it over/ mull it over and digest it as I can. I have to look things over before any implementation can take place. Thanks Meowgi

I'm not particularly knowledgeable about bipolar but I'm pretty sure gold is not considered exercise, unless it's sprint golf. If you would like to consider exercise, here is a thread for it and there are also many sott articles and a few radio shows on it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks thinking fingers! I will take any and all advisement. I live in the north east US so golf season is almost over. For the last two months I had been considering joining the YMCA as I like to swim and we have a beautiful place close to my house. Being bipolar is a gift as well as a curse, depending on how it is managed. I am just looking for natural ways of dealing with it rather than medicating it. Churchill managed his with alcohol, the problem with me is I am also an addictive personality so have to be really really careful with alcohol. As I stated above I am seeing my shrink on the 14th and will see what goes on with that as well.

Hello MM, I absolutely agree with the above here. If my thoughts are all jumbled and I'm having repetitive thought loops I find it really helpful to just get it all out on paper.
Even if it doesn't make sense, I just write and write until it's all out there. Sometimes I read over it to make sense of it and sometimes I just leave it because all I needed to do was let it go from my brain.

Channelling excess energy towards something useful or creative can be a healthy way of diffusing what's going on inside, like Ennio said, exercise or painting, or doing crafts, even cleaning the house!

And of course, doing EE is great. If you don't feel settled enough to sit down to do it you could pipe-breathe while walking gently or swaying till you can sit still.

Good luck :)

Thanks I am actually going to be doing actual good old fashion talk therapy with my shrink as well. I have some trust issues, a bit of ptsd and some other things to work through. Thanks for all the comments. Meowgi
