A new board. Board for Poles

MilkoJanovich

The Force is Strong With This One
Is it possible to create a new, Polish board on this forum? There are already boards for Frenchmen, Spaniards and Germans.

I don’t now if there are many Poles on this forum who would like to write something in their mother language from time to time so maybe it is good to talk it over first.

It would be a place where we could discuss situation in Poland, share information about where to buy books and healthy products and so forth.

What do you think?

Hi Mijas,

Just to clarify, the French, German and Spanish sections are not for discussions in those languages. They are there for questions about how to better express thoughts in English, or for clarification of how the forum works. All discussions on the forum take place in English, so those sections are merely there to facilitate discussions in English, not for native language discussions.

Hi Mijas,

There is about two thousand of registered members on this Forum and about one thousand of active ones. I don't know how many Poles are among them, but approximately 10 or so, which means ca 1%.

Having a separate board is time and energy consuming as it takes translating each post into English so that other Forum members and moderators can read it and respond if needed. That's how it works with the three other boards. And according to my understanding the purpose in creating those boards was to help active members in understanding threads or specific posts on the Forum by explaining things in their mother tongue and/or to help them with expressing their thoughts in English.

Moreover, the boards have been created for three most popular languages that a LOT of people around the world speak.

While I understand your need to have a Polish board, based on the experience of our French, Spanish and German forummates I don't think it would be beneficial or even possible at the moment. The best thing we can do for our fellow-countrymen interested in things this Forum is about, is to encourage them to learn English. There is nothing better in the world than THIS network if one wants to learn to see.

On the other hand, we do have a place to share information you mentioned; we can do it on our blog Pracownia where this kinds of comments are much welcome. Translating some bits from this forum about health and diet and posting them on our blog would help a lot, I think.

I think your reply was spot on, Possibility of Being.

For further information on these language sections, you can read Laura's welcome post here.

We chose those three languages for several reasons, the main ones being that there is quite material available in them, that there are A LOT of people who speak them in the world, and that we have forum moderators whose mother tongues are those. None of this is the case for Polish at the moment, so it is better to concentrate on translating material, learning English and growing, so that we can do more all together.

From our experience with groups and forums in other languages, members benefit MUCH more when interacting with everyone in the forum, and not only the ones who speak their language. Yeah, I know, it's a big barrier, but it is possible to overcome the obstacle. When there is a will, there is a way:-)

You can always post tips for Polish members as long as you do it in English. :)

exactly , i totally agree with above !
just wanted to say that whenever you will have a problem ... just ask , I`ll jump in and help and probably It`ll be too late because someone will do it before me .... as usual :D

Thank you all for your answers,

I have thought over this and came to a conclusion that this whole idea was probably a result of my laziness. I would like to communicate here more freely and sometimes I’m getting impatient because of the very long time I am spending on writing posts so I even gave up on writing some of them . I agree, this forum is a place where we all should share our thoughts and experiences so it’s better to write everything in English, and yes, there is also Pracownia blog, however, there is very little information about food and health so as you’ve mentioned, Possibility of Being, it would be good to translate some parts of the discussion on diet and health from this forum and maybe that’s what I’ll do next.

Thank you, Drygol, that's very kind of you. Nevertheless, it looks like I should always think more than twice before I ask any question.

Sorry for the confusion.

Mijas, I think that this is a wonderful idea! Everyone, everywhere needs to know about the poisons in our food, water and the air we breathe, and about the sensitivities each person has to different foods and how these cause all sorts of health problems.

Letting people know how totally bad wheat, sugar and dairy is for most people is also so very important.

Whew! It looks like you have an excellent path to learning more english by translating these articles into Polish.
