FARMER Jim Caroll 's family and friends are flocking to his Modewarre farm to get a glimpse of the newest member of the herd - a three-nostrilled cow.

Nicknamed Monkey Face, the six-week-old black Angus bull calf is causing quite a stir.

And Jim is paying him extra-special attention.

"I didn't notice it at all for a couple of weeks but now he's grown up and comes up to you, you can't miss it," he said with a laugh.

"Apparently there are only two others reported in the world, one in Switzerland and one in America, but it doesn't seem to worry him, he eats all right.

"I'll keep him as long as I can, but being a bull I can't put a ring on his nose."

Victorian Farmers Federation president Peter Tuohey said he'd never heard of anything like it before.

"I have heard of deformities in lambs but never a three-nostril calf," he said.

"It's a first for me."
