A Turkish Airline plane en route to Istanbul from Tirana has been hijacked by apparently two hijackers, turkish nationals, over Greece and has flown to Italy. In Italy the plane has been forced to land in the military air base in Brindisi by the F 16's of Italian military. Apparently the hijackers are unarmed and seem willing to let the passengers go free. There are 106 passengers and 6 crew on board and all are reportedly well. The official from the Turkish Airlines have talked with the pilot of the plane. The hijackers have claimed that they have a bomb in a bag on board. The hijackers have wanted to give a protest statement to the Pope on account of his recent statement on islam.
Sorry I could not find any turkish press links as of yet - the above is from the turkish tv channels, namely NTV.
Now, quo bene ? The world of islam have been provocated on and off, the caricture incident and then the statement of the Pope. This incident will serve those who are accusing islam of terrorism and fascism. And as the Pope was planning to visit Turkiye in the near future. And just as our prime minister, Mr. Tayyip Erdogan is in the USA (trying to talk with Bush). Is all of this a coincidence ? I don't think so. Some background on the prime minister : He was a member of a radical islamist party which was then closed down because it is against our constitution, then later formed his own party, (Ak Parti meaning the White Party) and he has been recently in a row with the turkish military (the only institution left loyal to Kemal Atat
