Hindsight Man

So I've gone through a few of Castaneda's books, and browsed a couple of Gurdjieff's and from what I understand, there are many ''paths'' on the way to knowledge/being.So I began to wonder if I can find something locally (I live in Australia) seeing as I'm not able to travel all over the world, but I may be able to do a little local exploration.I began by looking up stuff about aboriginal medicine men and eventually found this book.Aboriginal men of High Degree or the Clever Men as they are often known, are called so because they have attained a high degree of development.Anyway,it's a very short book (only 180 pages or so) but it's very dense. There are no words wasted and it's got tonnes of footnotes. It's also written in a scientific way, without much speculation or assumptions. Here,I'll give an excerpt from the book.
Chapter 2, page 45: The Powers of Medicine Men - While referring to possible practice of telepathy among Aborigines, mention might be made of the following type of occurrence, which I have observed.A native is asked to obtain some information from another native who is sitting down about a kilometer away. The former does not shout out to draw the other man's attention,as we would probably do.He just utters a quiet, fairly drawn out note and soon the distant man gets up and turns around. It hardly seems possible that the call could have been heard, but of course the aborigines are accustomed and attuned to hear much quieter noises than we are.So there may be nothing mysterious about it.Then, without the first man raising his voice or saying much, and with the use of a few signs between the two men, information is gathered. These two men have a background of experience and knowledge that allows them to dispense with much talking and noise. All cases however, are not as easy to explain as this.A researcher has recently obtained texts in the native language of the Lower Murray River people concerning their psychic life that are somewhat startling. Here is one case, given in free translation : ''When man is down on the plain and I am on the hill,I look towards him while I am talking.I say '''do you hear?'' I move my head from side to side glaring at him and then at last, stare at him and (hindsight note:I think it's interesting that they make a distinction between glaring and staring.Perhaps they apply their energy differently during those acts?) then turning say ''Come on,quickly''.As I stare at him fixedly,I see him turn as he feels my stare. He then turns and looks about as he continues to feel my stare. So I say ''Walk along here, this way, where I am sitting''.Then he walks right up to me where I was sitting, behind a bush.At last he comes up and nearly falls over me,I call out so that he will see me.He says to me ''You talked to me and I felt it,how did you talk to me so?I explain and he adds ''I felt your words while you were talking to me and then I felt that you are here.'' I answer ''True,it was in that way that I talked to you and you felt those words and also that power''
Further examples to be found within this book include levitation, clairvoyance and a seeming control over fire among others. It also outlines different methods of training that different tribes in various areas use (even has a map),as well as showing us evidence of similar ways in other parts of the world, like Tibet. The author speculates on where the teachings might have come from and sites all his sources.Pick it up if you haven't already. But then again, you might be able to find a pdf online.I just prefer the physical copy.
