Found some info on acorns as far being edible...

Apparently, they are not just for squirrels. They contain good fiber and blood sugar regulation properties. However, they do contain tannin, a chemical which is toxic to humans.

I've thought about acorns as a food source, reading that Native Americans used them to make flour. It seems you just have to get the bitterness out of them. You can also eat pinecone seeds, but some seem to be pretty small.
