Allergic Reaction

Last night my sister made some guacamole, which is something I have never eaten before. She made it with simply avocado, cilantro, lime juice (fresh squeezed herself) and chopped white onion. Within minutes my mouth was itching and burning, followed by my eyes watering and itching and my nose running with sinus pain and headache.

I immediately took some benadryl which kicked in after a bit, but I was miserable for quite some time. Today I have bad stomach cramps and have already had 3 or 4 bowel movements that are looser than normal.

I am wondering which item is the most likely culprit? Should I just avoid all of them? With the onion, I do eat onion, but almost always cooked. Cilantro by itself tastes like soap to me so I do not use it. And avocado is not something I've eaten before. Blegh. I feel terrible today!

My best guess is the reaction was from the avocado. Allergic reactions to an allergen becomes worse with each exposure, so best to avoid it from now on. Hope you feel better soon. :flowers:

Yes, I was thinking probably the avocado, as well, because it makes up the bulk of the guacamole. I feel very foggy and tired, too, so I suppose I should try to take it easy for today.

Thanks!

I actually get the reaction you speak of from eating raw onions, so for me they are a no go. Sinus flare up big time. Cooked or fried are OK.
