The Living Force
This movie depicts the experiences of Chris Kyle, the most successful sniper in the U.S. military. Most of the film plays in Iraq after 9/11, plus his visits home to his family and his increasing PTSD symptoms.
Well, I had very mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand, it was quite well done - directed by Clint Eastwood and main role by Bradley Cooper. On the other hand, it was almost like a whitewash for the illegal invasion of Iraq. They literally hunt for a high ranking member of Al-Qaida in Iraq - suggesting once again that there was a direct link between 9/11 and the Iraq invasion. That was just despicable.
Then there is also the blind faith of the main character that he is living in "the greatest country on Earth" and he wants to protect it from the "savages". Interestingly, this movie was based on the book written by the actual Chris Kyle who was killed in 2013 after finishing his book in 2012 and before this movie in 2014/2015. He was killed by another veteran at a shooting range.
Even more interesting is that Chris Kyle was sued by Jesse Ventura, because Kyle claimed in his book and on TV that he punched Ventura because Ventura allegedly talked badly about America and the military. Ventura won that process and was awarded close to $2 million. The controversy apparently helped the sales of Kyle's book.
So there is something very fishy about this whole Chris Kyle story.
