And now for something completely different.

A lot of the younger members may not have heard this one, it's at least 90 years old, and yet in the current political climate, somewhat topical.
Frank Ifield had a great voice and I particularly like his yodelling.

Enjoy..

It reminds me of the current turmoil between Turkey and Russia.

Very different! I heard a lot of Ernest Tubbs and Lefty Frizzell as a kid and I can never remember hearing such a detailed story that didn't involve themes from the western plains.

Nice find! The time loop concerning the "Eastern Question" continues. :)

A buddy of mine released his latest album last month and he has a distinct influence of Western too. He says the "signature" song on the new album is this one, "Sadr City". More Turkey/Syria/Iraq reflection from the cowboy camp. I like it.

That's interesting, and I found this little doco which tells about the battle of Sadr City.

I'm not surprised that your friend doesn't want to go back.

I enjoyed it very much! :) personally, I wouldn't have guessed it was such an old song. The description in the video says it was written in 1877!

Thank you Solie, I didn't realise it was as old as that until you mentioned it.

Here's the story of the song, thanks to Wikipedia:

And here's another version, by Frank Crumit:

This one is worth a listen, as it has slightly different verses, and no yodelling in case you don't like that..
