The Annapolis hospital has announced it will test the urine of applicants for signs of tobacco. Fail the test? Lose the job, though applicants may apply again for testing after six months.

We had a recent experience with this. My daughter applied for a nursing job at a local hospital and she had to take a drug test. Initially, they told her she had the job as they where impressed with her enthusiasm and had several good recommendations. But...the drug test came back and it was positive for nicotine as she's been smoking the vapor cigarettes. We where shocked! Never heard of this before. It was especially confusing for her because she had done her clinical training in this hospital and there is a designated smoking area outside for the nurses and other personnel, so she hadn't a clue. Apparently they can't fire you for being a smoker (yet) but they wont hire you if you are, that was her explanation anyway.

I'm not sure if they give you a list for exactly what they're looking for. Maybe she overlooked the fine print somewhere. She was told to reapply in 2 months after quitting smoking of course.
