This has been ongoing since Wednesday (last) night and reminded me of some of the other "lone" gunman shootings that Niall and Joe have written about. Listening to the news, the police have apparently encountered him three times and have yet to apprehend him while he's gone on to kill 3 officers and wounding two others. I initially thought this guy must have had military training although apparently he was known to have been an avid gun enthusiast. The media spin has been going into high gear, connecting this shooting and his name to anti-government, anti-police and even pro-Putin!

Justin Bourque, the alleged gunman police have descended on the Moncton area to find, has a distaste for authority, a passion for guns and planned to “go out with a bang,” according to friends, former colleagues and a lengthy social media trail.
Police have released scant details about the 24-year-old man they believe killed three RCMP officers as night descended on Moncton Wednesday. But his social media presence is extremely telling.
Shortly before the shooting, a new post appeared on Justin Bourque’s Facebook profile — a sample of lyrics from the Megadeth song ‘Hook in Mouth.’

From what is believed to be the Justin Bourque's Facebook page.
“A cockroach in the concrete, courthouse tan and beady eyes/A slouch with fallen arches, purging truths into great lies./A little man with a big eraser, changing history.”
“You knew this wasn’t the answer,” wrote Facebook friend Phil Hache under the lyrics, as Moncton remained in lockdown with all residents ordered to stay inside with their blinds drawn as police scoured the area for Mr. Bourque who, by the looks of his Facebook profile (his profile photo is of himself and a friend in camouflage clothing, the snow in front of them littered with shells), he may be an avid hunter who knows the woods well.
Also posted Wednesday was a quote from comedian Dave Chapelle, posted via Police the Police (a Community Project), which reads “You ever notice police will pull over for a light out, but if your car is broke down they drive right past you?” He also posted a photo Wednesday claiming “international militarization of police.”
In April, he posted another image, this one of Hollywood actor Johnny Depp as his Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow saying “We Need Your Guns, they said. So I shot them.” Mr. Bourque posted it with the tagline “Good morning, folks.” Another image of a basement lounge decorated wall to wall with guns boasts it as the ultimate “man cave.”
Mr. Bourque also “likes” Anonymous, the anti-government surveillance group that boasts the mantra “We are Resistance against the tyranny and corruption/we do not forgive/we do not forget/you should have expected us.”
On Thursday, some commenters pointed a finger at Anonymous for influencing the shooter, though other supporters dismissed that perception.
Overnight, “fake” profiles or fan pages for Justin Bourque have cropped up online, stirring outrage and raising questions of why anyone would want to celebrate an alleged killer.
Mr. Bourque, dressed in army fatigues and holding a rifle and a shotgun, is still at large and may be continuing to monitor his social media accounts, police say.
According to former co-worker at Walmart, Caitlin Isaac, Mr. Bourque wanted “give people something to remember him for.”
“I never took him seriously, but he always said he wanted to go out with a bang and bring people with him,” she told Business Insider.
She said he was fired from his job at Walmart several years ago for “attitude reasons.”
Mike Campbell, a friend since the two were toddlers, said his last exchange with Mr. Bourque was unsettling.
“I told him, ‘Get hold of me later.’ And he was like, ‘I don’t know. You take care, Mike. You have a good life,’” Mr. Campbell also recalled to Business Insider. “And I said, ‘No, man really. You’re not going to come visit me? Come over any time, I’ll be here.’ And he was like, ‘That probably won’t be able to happen….’ I was kind of weirded out by it. A few weeks alter all this crazy nonsense happened…”
There were also reports that Mr. Bourque was a member of local paintball club The Moncton Expendables, but a representative told the National Post Thursday that their member is a “different” Justin Bourque.
Mr. Bourque had been spotted three times Thursday morning in wooded suburbs around Moncton, but police failed to apprehend him. They say he was not known to police prior to this shooting.
The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night when police were called about a heavily armed man in camouflage carrying rifles.
Police said the shooting occurred along a road with the gunman near a wooded area and occurred over a short period of time. Three Mounties were shot dead and two injured. They remain in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The names of the slain officers has not been released at this time.
