Are any voluntary groups observing and reporting space objects and comets?

Hi All,

Perhaps this subject has already come up (didn't find anything in a quick search), but couldn't a bunch of us start observing the skies and reporting from wherever we are, in lieu of having access to US data (since it's now "classified")?

Could it be, this is just what PTB are afraid of us doing? I'm guessing this already happens (somewhat on this site and elsewhere) and probably doesn't pose a problem until there's really important info to share. Sites of interest?

Cheers,

Cindy

Good question.

I've brought up the subject to someone close to me of meteorites hitting and oncoming cometary bombardment without warning from the PTB (ie: governments, corporate/foundation-run observatories) and was told that it was unlikely because too many amateur astronomers (like the Japanese) would say something. When I mentioned who were these amateur astronomers going to report it to (ie: the government or corporate-controlled media) so that the largest number of people would be informed, he couldn't answer.

At present, it looks like the PTB have got the major observatories with the big telescopes under their control. Not sure if there are any voluntary groups with the power and equipment to effectively observe and report.

Yes, that would seem to be their key advantage. One can only hope that there are ethical people with access to that equipment who will find ways to "leak" what they know, without losing their access....

Not to mention also the space based equipment out there!! But I do remember that they are groups who pay to use the telescopes for non-commercial use although I don't think there are allowed usage of the space based telescopes.

There are public observatories but they obviously don't have the best equipment. I was just at one last week and they even gave a nice presentation on ancient observatories (Stonehenge, pyramids, etc.). They mentioned the Pleiades and equinoxes/solstices being important and mentioned there's a bunch of Mayan calendar end times stuff on the internet. They have a section on their image gallery for comets/meteorites.
