Hi ark:

This is interesting because I have witnessed the event depicted in this picture before several times I can recall. And every time I thought it to be really odd, because although there appeared to be no other birds around to fit that space, the other birds carried out their flight as if there was someone coming to fill in the space soon.

Ah, the 'screen image generator' is malfunctioning in that area - ssssure it's a 'flock of geese'...

;)
 
Here are some hypothesises about the missing bird(s) in the "V" formation...

1) There is a infared alien ship between the camera and the birds in the formation.
2) The missing birds had to stop and refuel and will be back shortly.
3) There was a wind gust in that area and blew the birds off course. They will get back into formation to complete the mission.
4) The digital camera has defective pixel problems in that area of the missing birds in the formation.
5) The 200+ members of the SOTT group has strongly willed that there will be a break in the formation. The experiment was successful.

As for the sun photo... lets's play the guessing game:

Is it sunrise or is it sunset? You have a 50% chance in getting it right :)

Nah - The lead bird creates vortices of air of its wingtips which create both a downwash directly behind him, as well as an upwash off the side and slightly higher. Each bird going back creates a bit of upwash for the next bird, as well as a slight push of air for the previous bird - hence the V shape. The birds at the very ends as well as the leader tire out much faster than anybody flying down the middle of the V, and so the pack rotates these positions to cover more distance. The pic here is just showing where the refreshed birds have probably rotated into the lead or trailing positions and the tired birds havent fallen into position yet. ;)

OK Fine! I admit it... I ate those missing geese. Please forgive me. With just a week of Ramadan left to go, I've been starving around here lately. *heh*

It is interesting that many things in life follow the Fibonacci sequence,
but not all things, right?

But you said, 90% of all plants follow the Fibonacci arrangements. Wouldn't a
discerning mind ask: "Why only 90%? What about the other 10% and why would
it not (by implication) follow the fibonacci sequence?." Ah! Perhaps the Gods like
to play with our logical and linear minds so as to throw in the proverbial "monkey
wrench" into the gears of life? As you said, the devil is in the details, eh?

Of course, we are for the moment, talking about plants. What about all life in general?
Is it all inclusive? Do Humans follow the Fib. sequence? Yes, in part, they do. The ratios
of the lengths of the fingers, arms, legs, is a Fib sequence of which its arrangement is
the golden mean, the spiral.

Of course, we are talking about specific things or characteristics for which we can fit certain
data into the Fib. sequence. What about things/objects such as (sub-)atomic particles, atoms,
molecules, stamen/pistil, blood vessels, ..., can each of these objects be found to have a
Fib. sequence/arrangement in them?

So, what is it then, that this 10% which does/may not fit into a fib. sequence/arrangement?

Perhaps they ALL do, as the C's are seemingly implying. Perhaps we just haven't found
the Fib.sequence/arrangement in all things.... yet.

One really cool thing about the Fibonacci sequence is that you can get it from the diagonals of Pascal's Triangle. The rows of Pascal's Triangle are the structure of Clifford Algebra dimensions. You do get particle physics from Clifford Algebra.
