(Astro)physics for Beginners

I am more and more getting interested in the "Science" aspects of the Cass. material.
Problem is: Apart from what I learned in Highschool twentyplus years ago, I have hardly an idea about the fundamental concepts
(gravity/anti-gravity etc/
I already felt I was missing a lot in the first Wave book because of this.

Is there a book like (Astro)physics for Beginners, explaining these concepts in a simple way, so that one can build on it?

(I can read English better than I write ;))

Thanks!

After Laura recommended it in another thread, I read "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku, which I highly recommend. Although it doesn't get much into technical details and focusses on a specific (though very interesting) aspect (hyperdimensions), I found it a wonderful read to get familiar with the vocabulary, basic concepts/theories and the history of modern physics.

Thanks, started the book and it is exactly what I was looking for!
