UNITED NATIONS - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."

"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said, referring to Bush's address Tuesday. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

The leftist leader, who has joined Iran in opposing U.S. influence, accused Washington of "domination, exploitation and pillage of peoples of the world."

"We appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our head," he said.

He also said the U.N. "doesn't work" in its current system and is "antidemocratic." He called for reform, saying the U.S. government's "immoral veto" had allowed recent Israeli bombings of Lebanon to continue unabated for more than a month.

"Venezuela once again proposes today that we reform the United Nations," he said. He drew tentative giggles at times from the audience, but also some applause when called U.S. "imperialism" a menace.

Chavez lambasted Washington for trying to block Venezuela's campaign for a rotating seat on the U.N. Security Council. He said if chosen over U.S.-favorite Guatemala in a secret-ballot U.N. vote next month, Venezuela would be "the voice of the Third World."

The U.S. government warns that Chavez, a close ally of Iran, Syria and Cuba, would be a disruptive force on the council.

I watched last night part of that Chavez speech on CNN. It was wonderful.

If something can be described as the true manifestation of the devil in our world it is GWB.

I admire Chavez for having the guts to stand before the world and state the truth.

And the smell of sulphur....lol..that was icing on the cake !!!

Imagine Hugo Chavez holding the Ponerology book in his hands at the U.N., his speech would be even more accurate! Some sources say that the book went from place 161.000 in sales, to place number 7, a bestseller overnight...

Chomsky Gets Boost From Chavez

(AP) The U.N. address by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has had an unexpected impact - on the best seller lists of Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com.

At the start of his talk Wednesday, during which Chavez referred to President Bush as "the devil," Chavez held up a book by Noam Chomsky, "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance," and recommended it to everyone in the General Assembly, as well as to the American people.

"The people of the United States should read this ... instead of watching Superman movies," Chavez later told reporters.

As of Thursday afternoon, "Hegemony or Survival," originally published in 2003, had jumped into the top 10 of Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com.

Metropolitan Books, an imprint of Henry Holt, has ordered an additional paperback printing of 25,000 copies.

Chomsky, the famed 77-year-old linguist, has long been an opponent of U.S. foreign policy. His many books include "9-11," a best-selling collection of interviews, and "Failed States," which came out last spring.

Has any one sent him a copy? He seems to be open to a lot of ideas, 9/11 being an inside job.
We were thinking on writing a nice letter of introduction for the ponerology article which is translated into spanish and even send him several letters if that helps at all. Don't think he will read the book, but we could try, maybe someone close to him may do it. We could send both, a letter plus the article and a letter plus the book.

I think the process did not go further for lack of popularity of Hugo Chavez between some Venezuelan members of the cass spanish list and other diversions. I'll bring it over there again, and even someone already tried to send it, it will help to make various attempts...

I thought it was very strange that Hugo Chavez would be plugging a book by the notorious left-gatekeeper Noam Chomsky. I find it hard to believe a man of Chavez's stature and political saavy would not have researched the author and discovered that Chomsky is probably COINTELPRO and very much alive. He thought Chomsky was dead! Chavez obviously made a slip-up here and maybe didn't even read the book himself. Many people are taken in by Chavez's charisma and oratory talents. I am a little suspicious of who may be pulling his strings.

We must consider the possibility that his UN speech was just a charade and that he is a bought asset along the lines of Osama bin Laden. When push comes to shove, Bush now has an excuse to invade Venezuela. Many people in this country would support such an invasion. Just consider Nancy Pelosi's comments and the call by many politicians to remove or change CITGO signs.

I recommend you read the following article by Daniel L. Abrahamson (it's long and very revealing): Noam Chomsky - Controlled Asset Of The New World Order-

i expect hugos days are numbered. Its bad enough to piss off the brotherhood if you were not sitting on an oilfield,a lot worse if you are!

Ya i have my reservations about chomsky, simply because he gets air play. Secondly, Chavez, because there is already one world gov't, they're just waiting to make it official. Likely: Chavez is a UI, unfortunate yes, but likely.

So your saying Chavez is a manufactured opposition puppet? Placed to send what signals?what use could he likely be to the brotherhood?

That's been discussed on another thread. Unfortunately, now I'm sure that STS-motivated people will be inundating Chavez with free books, hoping he's their ticket to the bestsellers list! I can imagine The Daily Show spoof already, complete with doctored photos of Chavez holding up everything from The Communist Manifesto to The South Beach Diet.

Another possibility is to send him a letter to the address where he receives messages from the general public. So instead of sending him the book, people could make a brief letter explaining the importance of knowing about ponerology to what is happening in the world, something that might pick up the attention. It might help if its done in spanish, by local people. The letter could be sent also to other members of his party.

I find it really curious that, right now and since the lasy days at cass chat esp, it has been discussed this too, how to contact Chavez.
