The Living Force
Just a small glitch report. On the 'Computer-Generated Media People?' thread, Laura made the last remark in the thread (when posting this) yet it is registered as Perceval's on the board.

Hi parallel,

Could you give the exact link of the post since as far as I can see the last post (when posting this) has been made by Laura.

Should have taken a screenshot, as now the listing has gone with other people having posted and registering correctly. The minor issue was just that when you looked at the board (either recent posts or Orwellian world) then the last post column showed Perceval as last poster, but when you clicked it showed Laura was the latest post.

Could it be possible that you mixed "started by" which is Perceval and "last post "

No I don't think so, as I checked it 4-5 times, seeing Perceval's name figure in both columns and then checking inside the thread to see Laura being the last poster.

Are you clicking into the thread and then returning to the board with the arrows on top of the page? This is how I do it. And even sometimes by the time I click onto a board and then onto the thread, someone else has had the time to make a post and is then the last person there. If you go from a thread back to the board by returning to the last page and then click into another thread on the same board, others have been able to post and not have it show up on the board as it hasn't been refreshed.

Don't know if I am making myself understood because I don't know the technical terms here, but that's what I've found to happen to me.

Yes, I think you are referring to the updating of posts with a 'refresh page' click rather than just clicking 'back'. I refreshed every one of those 4 or 5 times of checking (in firefox pressing either F5 or the clockwise circular arrow in the address panel).

Something similar happened to me last night on the same thread. I posted after lostinself but when the page refreshed, lostinself was still listed on the front page as the last poster but my post was actually the last one on the thread. Here's what I observed:

When I was done writing, I pushed 'submit' and nothing happened for a few seconds. Then the page went blank and Chrome's page refresh icon just turned and turned with no result. It was like temporarily having the world's slowest internet connection. Then I shut down the browser and reloaded the forum. That's when the discrepancy showed up.

Then I logged out and logged back in. The discrepancy between what the front page of the forum reported as the last poster on that thread and the actual last post still displayed. I thought it was just a script failure to update that little bit of data in the data base, due to a temporary 'connect' error or something.

If the data for the "Last post" column is being cached on the server for the board (which is what I would do :halo: ) and other listing pages (recent posts, etc.), it could be some obscure set of conditions that causes it to not get updated from the database when it should, whether that's event-driven (per post I would assume) and/or on a timed interval. If that's the case, imo it would likely be faster to review cache's config (and possibly logic) and see how if there are any obvious possibilities for stale data since trying to recreate this bug sounds likely to require a trip to Log Graveyard.

Wednesday night (gmt+2), I also "could have sworn I clicked submit" in my recent Swamp thread but only noticed yesterday that my post wasn't there (fortunately I had drafts saved) so I can't say for sure since I didn't double check the board at the time.
