Hi Sleepyvinny,Devar
Jesus Jones the first band to go to number One in the UK for the record Label "FOOD" a subsiduary of EMI and owned by Andy Ross, and Dave Balf who also owned Blur at the same time although they where not yet heard of but existed.Albarns new bansd The Good the bad and the queen i see are "Owned" by EMI so im not expecting anything more than more abstract lyrics in songs with no meaning coming from that direction, though some may be "catchy"

Unfortunately "SHOUT!" only suggests getting up and doing something, though doesnt specify what exactly.Just to wake up!But it brings interested first time visitors to the "Away With The Fairys " website who then from what my statistics show click on the "Signs" page and the Pentagon Strike, making it worth the effort.

The end of Top of the pops in the uk was a thing to rejoice in,there was nothing coming through their but put together bands who look no further than fortune and fame.

Unfortunately local independent Radio stations in the UK controlled by EMAP and which have no local content or local issues on them are still with us. Pumping out i dont know what kind of music these days as i dont live in the UK any more.

Though its the same in Europe as thew name EMAP would suggest.I remember an aquaintence worked for Radio City in Liverpool and he had the only show that promoted anything local,in this case local bands. He also interviewed Timothy Good the author of "Above Top Secret" he had a decent show going.

Though all the other "programs" at City where handed a list of songs that had to be played and at a specified time to boot. This was at all the fm commercial radio stations in the UK and im certain Europe to.

The bands and singers etc where ones i and mostly no one had heard of,and it didnt matter ecstacy had hit the country and as long as it had a heavy beat people didnt care.

Lyrics where a thing of the past during these ecstatic years in genral

I really dont have sympathy and do not empathise with the music industry in any way whatsoever, they contributed to the decay of anything that could be passed as culture, maybe they where following orders.

I really would like a list of artists who are playing these days who are recording songs with any real meaning in their lyrics, real reflection of life,i dont count abstract stuff where you really do have to stretch a great distance and guess that a certain sentence in the song means they can see,or have even an iinkling of an idea what is going on.

Sir Bob (and you dont just get a knighthood for nothing) had me going nutz when he told artists that they couldnt say certain things at G8....left me flabergasted!

The reason people are dying in so called 3rd world countries is because of the frontmen of Bush and Blair and all of the corrupted shadow peoples policies to dominate human beings. They murder by War or by having no desire to make this world a sharing caring one.

Oh and Albarn nearly said something and then didnt, his complaint was that their was not enough representation of So called 3rd world artists at the G8 gig.......WOW big Deal and avoiding the real issue totally.

So what is one to do?

hmm

yup. I gave up listening to ANY radio stations about 10 years ago. Makes it a bit tricky finding good new music, but at least now we have broadband.

so would I...
don't hold your breath. nope, it's mostly very childish stuff. ponerised, I guess you'd call it.

there's always radiohead, though I haven't even heard their last 2 albums - DRM meant the 'hail to the thief' CD wasn't guaranteed to play on my PC so I pretty much stopped buying CDs altogether.

Check out Australia's Triple J - jjj.net.au - I've found them great. The only radio station now that I will willingly listen to. Yes they have streaming for those not in Australia. :-)
