O.K., so we know bamboo doesn't grow a million feet in a day but I wanted you to read my post. :) Bamboo does grow rather hastily though and the timber type bamboo, the kind you build fantastic, strong and whimsical multiple story structures with, reaches harvesting maturity in only 3 to 6 years. Spruce, pine and fir trees will take 25-35 years or more before they are ready. Here's a website that bamboo inspired me and caused me to go bananas for bamboo. The site's called Ibuku.com and I'm not connected to anyone there or promoting their brand particularly but I am very exhilirated by the community they created in order to realize their vision.
When I cruised around the site I saw all the crafts people, artisans, designers and architects they assembled and it was impressive and heart warming. You'll see motivated people there who's purpose is to design and build the unusual custom furniture, who are the garden design and planting team, who are the 3-D model builders and then there are those who construct the complicated beautiful organic buildings in a pretty cool bamboo workshop/warehouse space. This was a site I explored a bit and I was thinking of Laura's post on container houses as an inexpensive housing option. There are companies that sell the appropriate building bamboos but I was thinking that maybe growing our own bamboo forest or forests would be another option besides the shipping containers. Here's some more websites to learn much more about bamboo but first look at what those creative people did with it. I kept thinking, "gosh I'd look good lounging in that living room listening to Sott Talk Radio or reading "Earth Changes and the Human Cosmic Connection."
