Basic Diet Info for Starters

I was wondering if there was such a thing as a manual or handbook or something for newcomers interested in making the necessary dietary changes. If so, would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction? There is so much information (which is fabulous), but I've been getting myself a bit confused - I'm not sure where to start! :-[ I also noticed some threads regarding a cookbook .... Also, that I should probably be looking at getting some supplements (?). Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi IF,

It sounds as if your are reading the "Life Without Bread" thread on the Diet and Health board. If you aren't, start there. You should also read at a minimum, The Vegetarian Myth (Lierre), Primal Body, Primal Mind (Gedgaudas), and The Art and Science of Low Carb Living (Phinney). These books are the foundation of the diet that forumites are testing. It's no less than a complete re-tooling of your metabolic processes, and it needs to be done carefully and intelligently. Thus the recommended books. There are other helpful titles you will encounter along the way, like Good Calories, Bad Calories and Deep Nutrition, but the first three will give you all the info you need to get started.

It's important to read the whole LWB thread because there you will find a wealth of information about the different experiences people have had while implementing a low-carb, high fat, Paleo-style diet.

It's a great adventure, and you will (hopefully) feel better than you ever have before! Have fun. ;D
