Being chased.

So here I am smoking one to calm down. Where to begin with this dream. Or nightmare. It's currently 4:20am at the moment and I just screamed and woke myself up.
This dream was all over the board so to speak. I don't really remember where or when it started but it was a "long" dream. The one part I do remember is the end, right before I woke up. I was being chased by a dead dude. Yet whatever it was was only represented by a dead dude. It represented something that I was running from. There was a restaurant? type of place where I was walking through with people talking to me. I didn't say anything but just kept looking and walking. One "guy" looked right at me and said "it was a good thing I picked up something off the street"? The something was an drug I found lying in the street and turned in to the marshals office? Or some type of authority figure. After that I was walking through parking lots that were deserted and empty. I looked back and saw someone following me. I jumped into a trashcan? with wheels and started moving faster through the parking lot. I saw this guy following me and I knew he was dead? right before he caught up with me I started screaming an I woke up. The dream seemed to jump from building to building.

With dreams I don't recall ever screaming and waking myself up like this. This would be a first to my knowledge. I knew on some level that I needed to wake up from this, perhaps to get out of danger? I have been sleeping in complete darkness with no radio which is a big step for me. I'm confused about this dream as I have never had one like it.

From what I've read, buildings and houses can represent your subconcious. The pursuer could be a problem you aren't dealing with. I've only had one pursuit dream, and I had it multiple times, until finally in my dream I turned around and faced it, and it jumped "into" me. The pursuer wasn't a person, it was a black panther. (I haven't entered anything on the other black panther thread because I wasn't attacked.) In Sylvia Brown's book about dreams, she says if it's an animal, it may be your "totem" and that it is trying to catch up with you (I always escaped the panther by flying away; my flying dreams are frequent and are really cool, so are my house dreams.). So, are you sure it was a dead dude and not an animal? That particular dream stopped occuring when I "faced it".

I'm positive that it wasn't an animal. I still clearly remember this guy's face. I have never seen this person before in real life.(Something in my mind just clicked and said I have seen this person before it was me?) All I know is that I had to get away from that person fast. What really surprised me was the fact that the fear was so very strong in this dream enough to make me scream and wake up. I remember my body screaming first before I kinda jumped back into my body. A definite first for me. The other surprising thing that I noticed was my anger was completely absent. Usually in life if I notice people following me or chasing me I tend to see if they are following me or simply going in the same direction as me and if they are then I get really angry and confront them. The thought did cross my mind that I should have stopped and turned to face him. Either way I'm still mulling this one over trying to figure it out. Last night was hard to sleep as I was being stubborn and didn't even want to sleep. But I told myself to sleep and to not dream, surprisingly I didn't dream and I got some decent sleep. I have dreamed were there where animals but this individual wasn't like an animal. He ran and moved like a human. Troubling and puzzling.

I'd definitely take a look at that thread. I read Clarissa Pinkola Estes' Women Who Run With The Wolves many years ago, and it's a good idea to face it if it happens again. By the way, I recommend this book for men as well as women.
