The Belarus state security service, the KGB, claims it has successfully foiled a terrorist plot to blow up a police station, the service said on Friday.
"A man wearing a mask with an Arabic inscription on it was arrested in the Gomel Region on May 24, while he was preparing a container with a flammable mixture and a homemade bomb of 5 kg TNT equivalent. He was preparing to carry out a terrorist act against members of a police unit," the KGB said.
The KGB did not give the man's name or nationality, but said initial information indicated he was linked to an organized criminal group responsible for moving people from Afghanistan to a European country.
