Looks like a meteor/cometary fragment entering the atmosphere. We've seen others similar to that one before. Some in the comments section think it's a falling rocket. They may be right, provided there was some actual rocket around those dates and in that area.

Yes we have seen a bunch of similar ones in the last couple of years. Whether or not it is a comet or rocket, there is definitely quite some plasma reaction going on, which suggest that our atmosphere has changed, since it seems we haven't seen such stuff in this intensity and frequency just a couple of decades ago.

Atlas V rocket launch in Florida, from either Sept 2014 or Sept 2015.

The reason why this is 'normal' and 'not normal' at the same time is that it is basically something mundane (the Atlas 5 rocket launch from 2015), BUT the atmosphere's composition has changed over the last couple of decades or so, which means that things travelling through it often produce weird contrails. Climate change is real (and no, it's not man-made).

It might be a new one. There is a still image on the video at minute 1:53 that shows a Mail Online article published on 23 July 2016 that seems to describe the event over Miami airport. Unless the newspaper's staff came across a youtube video a year later.

The images look identical to me, so I think you are right. There was a newer video released just recently on youtube, and the people at the Mail Online simply assumed it was a recent event.

I would say that this special visual phenomenon of rocket launches is independent of the atmosphere, because the rocket exhaust is visible in the same way even above the atmosphere in a vacuum (where the 'cloudy' trail changes into a super smooth bubble consistent with a no-resistance environment of high vacuum). Note that all such videos are shot after sunset or before sunrise, into the direction of the sun, which suggests that the rocket exhaust trail is simply backlit by the sun behind the horizon.
