Blue lights & busy skies in Maastricht

Hello everyone, I'd like to share with you some particular sightings me and my friends have experienced in the city of Maastricht.

Before I tell of these accounts, I might need to address the point that Maastricht, located in the very south of the Netherlands, seems to have increasing sightings these days. There are numerous accounts available on the internet and one of my friends and I have made it an almost daily event to look at the night's sky together over a cup of tea. We have been seeing many different things, from lights that stop and hang around to airplane-like crafts that act differently in flight behavior from normal airplanes. As my apartment is located rather high in a building and no exceptionally tall buildings block the view, it has become an easy place to 'spot things'.

There is a lot of normal air traffic in Maastricht as well, seeing as there is an airport located nearby. However, due to this we've become more skilled in telling the difference between a normal airplane and something out of the ordinary - the normal airplanes fly at a certain altitude, in a limited number of directions and there are only a couple of different types of planes that come by.

On Sunday the 12th of December, my friend and I were walking outside when we noticed a very bright light in the evening sky. As we walked on, we were able to distinguish three different small white lights aligned and a red light that seemed to act as some sort of 'tail' to those. At first we did not exclude the possibility of this being an airplane, but the placing in the sky was different from the route the usual air traffic takes and as we were discussing this, the lights suddenly seemed to move more quickly across the sky. At one point, the lights suddenly moved from being horizontally aligned to a vertical position and descended rapidly, as if though it was 'falling' from the sky. We tried following it, but it disappeared from our sight behind blocks of houses when it got too low.

In the same week, on Wednesday, the same friend and I had invited over two other friends for dinner and we told them about what we had seen and that we occasionally see odd lights and things in the sky from my apartment. Later on, when it had turned dark, I noticed during a conversation when I glanced at the window that there were numerous blinking lights in the sky.

The four of us moved up to the window to take a look and soon it became clear that there were at least twelve blinking lights moving here and there. We weren't able to exactly make out what kind of crafts they were, but comparing them to normal airplanes, both the lights and their flight behavior, as well as their altitude and positions were different. In addition, there seemed to be little to no stars visible as it was quite clouded that day.

After watching these objects for a while, we decided to sit down again and continue our conversation. After half an hour or so, our curiosity took over once more and we moved back to the window. We then saw bright blue lights coming from near the church in the distance and from a block of houses situated just two or three streets away from us. These lights at first we thought to be part of some sort of celebration, as the city has many decorations up for Christmas, but for some reason we couldn't shake off the feeling of them being a little unusual, especially considering they also came from a normal neighborhood where no Christmas decorations or parties were going on (This was also during the first period of heavy snowfall, so there weren't many people outside in the first place - another reason why we excluded the possibility of these being party street lights of some sort).

The lights behaved in a flashing manner, not quite like a stroboscope, but not alike search-lights either. They seemed to come from the ground and were aimed at the sky. The light in the neighborhood near us was so bright it even reflected from the side of the building opposite of my apartment. At the same time, the lights in the sky had lessened in numbers, but there were still three or four of them left, flying over.

At one point a car stopped on the road in front of my apartment building and a lady stepped out to scoop off some snow from the roof and the hood. She then paused and looked up at the sky as well, after which she quickly got back in her car and drove off.

The blue lights disappeared at one point when we had gone back to sit down and the activity in the sky had lessened as well. When everyone went back home, which was after midnight, I sat down in front of the window again, but didn't see anything else out of the ordinary.

This last particular account was so impressive to me that I did some research on the internet to see if there were more sightings of the same happening. Sure enough, I found one particular account that took place during the same night;
from http://ufo-tv.com/they-were-above-maastricht-all-night-long;
I was look for the geminids and then I saw a triangle flying towards me, I have no idear what direction it was but when it was close it was silent. It had 3 red lights at each end, and two airplane strobe like lights on it’s side. It flew above my house and I could clearly see it was a black triangle. Perfectly black, it was beautiful!

It flew back towards the direction it came from and I could follow it with my eyes for 20 minutes with no noise what so ever. It was very slow and it was just under the clouds, it was a very clear cold night and there were some clouds.

But the stupid thing is, I saw it 9 times coming from different directions. I called my brother and he saw it two and was amazed by how slow it went and how silent it was.
It was so slow and silent, it was like it was doing a grid search.

And there was a Cigar like objects filled with horizontal lights(about 7 of them) very very bright, it was like it was getting brighter but the second, far in the distance. Above (far above) the mountain on my house’s right side.

It was in the clouds, it just went into the clouds twice. It appeared and disappeared. That happened four times in a row from 22:00 till 04:30 in the morning.

And of course some nice Geminids (=
But people my knee’s were weak it was such a strong experience.

I have never ever saw so many ufo’s ever in one night.

Not that this is super relevant, but last night I dreamed of sting-ray shaped blue and red UFOs flying dangerously low.

update: 04-01-2011

Today, my friend and I got together for dinner and conversations. We both didn't clearly witness the solar eclipse this morning, but we did both notice a fair amount of chemtrails hanging in the sky that faded out to looking like long-stretched clouds. After dinner, around 21:00, we decided to have tea at my window and again noticed an 'event' in the sky which lasted until at least 22:30.

In the beginning we noticed blinking singular lights again, which at the blink of an eye would probably appear as stars. Yet, the sky was pretty open and clear in some places, so we could see the behavior of these lights differed from that of stars. During this time we watched the skies, these lights flew over from the West sky to the East, yet some appeared in the opposite direction as well.

The flight behavior of these particular lights was odd in the sense that they seemed to disappear and then reappear a little further along the way at the same time. It also seemed that the behavior of the lights changed upon the perspective; sometimes they appeared like 'stroboscopes' flashing in a steady rhythm, other times they appeared to not blink at all. All in all, these 'objects' were rather high in the sky, yet not invisible to the bare eye. In fact, looking up from the street below, there were enough chances to see some fly over. Every two minutes or so, one or two objects came flying over.

At one point, one object moving from the East to the West, bent off from the path the other objects seemed to have followed and flew over our apartment building. It was high up in the sky, but from the seventh floor we could make out that this one had three lights, shaped like a triangle. One of the lights was blue, the other was reddish/white and the third one was yellowish/white.

A little while after that, a thick blanket of clouds came sliding in from the North-West, literally pulling itself over towards the South-East. The lights still appeared every now and then, but we also caught sight of a burning orange light shining up in the skies over the building opposite of ours. It was stationary for a good minute or so, perhaps a couple, before it moved back in the same direction it had come from (West).

Another two light more alike the first objects, also repeated this behavior. Though they were higher up in the sky above another building further away, they also moved East at first, seemed stationary for a moment and then moved back West and out of our sight.

The clouds ended up covering the entire sky and right now no star seems to be able to penetrate it.

around 23:30, when my friend had already left and the clouds were already there, I was thinking about writing this down on the forum immediately now I have the time and remember what I've discussed with my friend whilst looking at these objects, I noticed another object in the skies right in front of my window sight, yet still at a reasonable distance. I could only make out bright white light, stationary for at least five minutes and almost long enough to trick me into believing it was a star or a planet after all - I was ready to revise the little I know about astronomy - but it moved, quite fast, back to the West and out of my sight.

I know the common reaction to this is 'take pictures', but actually this is another reoccurring difficulty; every time I whip out a camera to either record or photograph something, it seems something has to be in the way. My phone's battery was dead two times before, another time I had my digital camera but its batteries (newly charged) were empty and this time when I reached for my cellphone and selected 'camera', I get an error message saying my battery's not full enough to start it up. However, the battery seemed fine and still keeps my phone alive right now as I'm typing this.

Windmill knight, I actually had my very first dreams of UFO's (also flying dangerously low) just a week ago. In my dream, they were saucers :) Popular topic in dreams these days, I wonder?

update

I wanted to keep track of all the sightings done from where I'm located, but it's beginning to feel 'out of control'. What I mean by that is that recently, with the exception of yesterday's clouded sky, every night offers material. A number of these objects are actual airplanes, but the number of other objects surpasses those appearances. To sum up what can be found in the skies in the south of the Netherlands/Belgium border, I'll need to keep a proper track record and perhaps find some device that will allow me to capture some of these objects. Until then, I'll keep on observing alongside my friends and write down only accounts that appear to me as different from 'the usual',

I don't know what is going on in other places as much, but 'the usual' that we find around here seems to be getting more frequent, more obvious and 'more threatening' - previously, objects would not fly over this building and were at a distance one could confuse them with normal air traffic; nowadays, objects fly over this building, take sharp turns where everyone could see and even descend quite boldly as we're watching.

(this last account we had when riding a bus - there were two of us looking out of the window and a group of men discussing something. we noticed a set of lights flashing in the distance and as we drove past, we saw them descending in a neighborhood outside our view. naturally, the men didn't even look up. I'm not so sure about the bus driver.)

It feels like 'something is up'....

From your description it seems that there is some heavy unusual celestial activity going on in your neighbourhood. Perhaps you should find the way for capturing these lights with video camera or to took some photos of it. It really sounds interesting and your report supported with visual "proofs" would be good material for High Strangeness section! Happy hunting!
