Book Suggestion Request! Polish life in 50s and 60s

Can any of the Polish forum members (or those otherwise knowledgeable) recommend a good English book (or books, or even movies) that depicts what life was like during the 50s and 60s in Poland? What was it like to interact with the police? Could be fiction or non-fiction.

I have, and will be reading, Czeslaw Milosz's The Captive Mind, which looks promising, but I'm looking for more sources.

Any good photograph books or websites depicting those times?
