Bus Radio

Just heard about Bus Radio this morning. According to the news source, 11 schools in Massachusetts will have on board their school busses "targetted" content, including advertisements, and probably some things that they aren't disclosing.

I find this alarming. It may seem minor to some but this is getting to be in your face programming. The kids will not have the option of turning it off.

At least some people are paying attention:

From the last link:

BusRadio claims it is a ''behavioral tool" that ''is designed specifically to improve bus safety while providing the students with both age appropriate content and an entertaining ride to and from school."
The first part is all of it in a nutshell: behavioral tool. The second part is the blind.

Cheers.

This forced media thing is getting out of control. Yesterday I say TV's with targeted ads in the checkout line at a supermarket. The number of TV's you see everywhere now is unbelievable in the United States. There are news headlines and ads on a screen in the elevator in the office building I work in. The building only has three floors plus two underground parking floors.

You know, ever since the mini series "V" where they showed the children and teenagers buying into the invader's propagada and then turning in their parents to the aliens if they found out that their parents didn't like the aliens, I could see just this thing happening. Well, not really with aliens, but I could see the government doing something like this. I've just been waiting for the children of the world to unite against their parents and turn them in for anything, which has become the case in isolated instances.

When my husbands kids were in school, they were being told all of the time by their teachers and counselers, "Tell us if your parents drink too much, or use drugs, or abuse you." I was not surprised at all. I just kept thinking back to the mini series. And now this, programming on the buses. Well, I guess I shouldn't be suprised at this either.

By the way, I know it's been said before here, but the mini series "V" was pretty much right on.
