Call for contributions on Radiation/BP for new Radio Podcast

Hi all,

After some brainstorming, Away with the fairy's and myself are planning to put together a series of podcasts, initially pre-recorded, potentially live with the aim of 'getting the word out' and having some fun. :D

The proposed structure is a mixture of news discussions, comments, impacts, personal stories/reflections and lighter views: comedy, poetry, music, book reviews, recipes, and the 'what we can do about it' advice.

The show will be called Everyman Radi0 after the 15th Century "Everyman" Christian Morality play. We have the dot com domain and will shortly be building a great site there especially for this.

To start with we are thinking along the lines of sending out a themed podcast once every two weeks. The first theme being 'Radiation', the second 'BP'. If you'd like to get involved please submit a recording by Sunday 8th May, with the first show to go out the following Sunday 15th May.

We are looking for contributions on any of the following:

Sketches/ideas for sketches

Poetry readings

reflections from members - "I'm Ms T from X and I think___"

monologues

book reviews/readings

interviews

music suggestions

phone in

recordings of that man down the street who does bird impressions.

With sent files in mp3 /AIFF /WAV format AWTF will magically weave it together. We'd recommend creating a mediafire account to upload your contributions to and sending us a link (and password if needed) to download. (specific details to follow...)

Those of you who may be interested in contributing to the production have some time to raise your hand, gather your thoughts and prepare a recording.

We'd also welcome some help with logo design and graphics for the new site.

This seems a great idea! Alas, I'm strictly nontechnical so cannot help actively. But I do have some suggestions to make.

For instance, the testimonials on the countercult website could be used as a source of inspiration for topics and for snips of formulations of opinions/experiences.

Another suggestion would be to listen to the famous 'Solitude trilogy' by Glenn Gould to get inspiration for sound mixing and collages of spoken words. Very recommended!
(see: _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solitude_Trilogy). I have them on CD -CBC Records, PSCD 2003-3- but they are also available as a download, I believe. Interesting to listen to with 'technical' ears...

Hi Palinurus . Technical side is covered as far as getting the production out pre recorded , and even live when this is possible. I have experience in doing this having use to send out live /podcasts out over the internet , and using skype for phone ins.

Where some people can maybe help is by recording basically anything down , thoughts , poetry , a reading, a happening , and sending file in mp3 , Aiff , wav etc to a given adresss , with these files we can weave the production together. Folks can also send in their photography /images , own writings , and so on

Anyone who has a website or blog which they are able to place html code on , can help in promoting also , by placing the radio player on one of their pages.
 
Yes AwtF, I got your drift first time round.

I just meant to say I am not equipped with any of the required technical means or knowledge/expertise to accomplish what you are proposing. That's all.

So, it seems I can only support you from the sidelines as I wrote. But I do consider it a great idea to try to tap in into new 'markets' or audiences this way, I really do. Wishing good luck to both of you and to all potential contributors.
 
Just a quick request for questions we can read out on the podcast and try to answer.

Would also be really cool if some of you could make a brief recording in your language, "hello, I'm _ from _ ". just something simple to give a global community feel to the recording that make really nice sound bite fillers. You can always add a little extra if you feel like it.

I'm an illustrator. I'd be glad to offer anything graphic you might need. I have some BP related pieces already that we proposed for the protests in New Orleans with the Krewe of Dead Pelicans rallies early on. Anyway, at your service... :)

Any improvements you can think of to the header of the site would be appreciated and we would also appreciate a design for an itunes podcast feed if you fancy it:

This tag specifies the artwork for your podcast. Put the URL to the image in the href attribute. iTunes prefers square .jpg images that are at least 600 x 600 pixels, which is different than what is specified for the standard RSS image tag.

iTunes supports images in JPEG and PNG formats. The URL must end in ".jpg" or ".png". If the itunes:image tag is not present, iTunes will use the contents of the RSS image tag.

If you change your podcast’s image, also change the file’s name. iTunes may not change the image if it checks your feed and the image URL is the same.

Spend some time developing an attractive, original image that represents your podcast well. Potential subscribers will see it on your podcast’s page and a much smaller version of the image in search results and feature placements. Make sure your design is effective in both sizes.

A disclaimer also , as it does mention the dreaded and feared tobacco? We do not advocate smoking cigarettes with additives and chemicals to people under the age permitted in their country of residence :)

I will choose any music that may be used in the podcast later today , then send you information regarding who the artist is and where you can find them.This will allow us to use their /his/her music in the podcast legally.

Lots to do as always at present so music link may not come in until around 10 pm GMT!
