I'm actually quite interested in this movie, and I will probably be able to see it since it premieres here in the Netherlands soon.

Maybe this is why she's taking a little vacation from Hollywood?

Hollywood isn't much different from the rest of the mass media in this sort of play... you gotta give an inch every so often to keep the audience 'hopeful' and coming back for more... always more, more promises that some day, things will change.... hope springs eternal, same as lies.

Maybe the club will give it a nod with a nomination... that should enough to allow them to think well of themselves and keep the rest of the party going.... as long as it can.

Hi gdpetti, I assume you're talking about Kristen Stewart, the female lead role in the movie. I don't know her to be honest, and I haven't seen any of her work. As for the Hollywood movie industry, I'm not that knowledgeable about that either other than knowing it's a highly ponerized environment. Most movies created there aren't much in terms of artistic value or messages conveyed, but I suspect this movie will be more than just a propaganda piece for the empire. Could be wrong though, I guess I'll find out.

Ugg.

In my opinion Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress. She really only has the ability to look tragic in every scene - I'm thinking of the Vampire movie series Twilight Saga and Snow White and the Huntsman. If you can get passed her 1 dimensional acting which sounds like it might fit well with this movie then you just have to get passed the "some good and bad does happen at Guantanamo" pill that you'll be forced to swallow along with the spoon full of sugar chaser that will also be served up in order that Americans are left feeling good about themselves somehow.

A more realistic story would be that the pretty little military girl would have to overcome nonstop sexual harassment and/or rape by colleagues AND supervisors just to do her job everyday in a good-ol-boys-club atmosphere on an island no one wants to acknowledge and that she can't get off of. That is more likely to be her military reality but it's not quite as consumable for the public.

I consider any movie about the American military to be a short PSYOPS program so I might be a bit biased on my opinions of this one :).

Looking forward to your impression after you've seen it Mechanic!
