Camping Stove

Hi Kaigen,

this is a really cool thing - I haven't been able to watch the video due to low bandwidth and speed, but the picture looks great. Reminds me of the alcohol stoves we had in the army, which was just a can with a lid. Very safe to use, just open the lid and light the alcohol. Also safe to transport, we could just throw it into the backpack.

We of course also liked to throw the thing wholesale into a fire, makes a nice bomb after a few minutes. Very dangerous!

Thanks for sharing, Kaigen. My husband and I have spent a fair amount of time watching you tube videos on various kinds of stoves and heaters.

If alcohol were not available, the rocket stove, which just burns small twigs, would be something to have around in a SHTF scenerio. This one is made from tin cans as well. Pretty neat. _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQyU4lokVe4

I think now is the time people should be looking into these things, building them and having them on hand, just in case. At this point, it seems it is not a matter of IF sh*t will hit the fan, but WHEN.

In the past I've made several wood-burning stoves out of single cans, much smaller, that are top burners, ie, you fill wood from the top and light from the top, and they rely on an updraft/chimney effect through drilling holes on the base sides of the can (and the base itself to empty the ash) and near the top sides of the can too. They were ideal for trekking in the mountains.

Unfortunately I don't have the details of the website that I made them from. :(

Really interesting. Thanks for sharing, Kaigen.

Thanks to you too, Lilou. It's when, yes. And much more, like adapt the house, learn emergency help and train yourself in annoying situations, unusual, etc. So many things!. I wish it were 1999 and have access to all this information alike. But well, it is how it is and all are lessons :-)
