Hi folks,

I've been doing a fair bit of reading but not a lot of posting. One think which struck me was the signatures from forum members, a number of which are personal or quotes from others containing wise words. With the awareness that my contributions are minimal, I decided to compile a list of signatures of forum members below which are broken down by the number of posts they've made - greater than or equal to 5000; greater than or equal to 1000; greater than or equal to 500.

The list was compiled with the intention of having a number of short inspiring phrases to ponder on occasion, but I also thought I'd share the list for everyone seeing as it might be useful for others too.

Sorry if I've missed anyone's signature and moderators please move this to the appropriate section if this is not the correct one. Thank you :)

He who learns must suffer
And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget
Falls drop by drop upon the heart,
And in our own despair, against our will,
Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

Every time you say "yes" to someone who doesn't deserve it, and go against Yourself and what you value the most, you kill a small part of your essence. LKJ

One should also keep in mind that when you interfere in the "lesson plan" of another by trying to rescue them, you very often take their karma or lessons on yourself. That is, when you try to stop bullets for someone else, YOU are the one who gets shot. LKJ

"[...]Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.[...]" ~ W.H. It seems, from all the studies that are done, that an elevated mood - one of happy expectation of the possibility of adventure - is the greatest protection against illness. Perhaps it is also the one that makes one "inedible" to the Matrix? –Laura

I can think of this network-group as a second, adopted family. I can think of Laura and Ark as the "parents" of this rather large family with all our amusing foibles. Occasionally there will be a "falling out;" a certain member may leave the family. But life goes on... and we all continue learning our lessons.

I mean personal goals here. Often we are afraid to set an aim for ourselves because, in the moment, we cannot
imagine a way to reach it. I think that is a mistake. Let us set goals for ourselves, and no matter how ambitious they are, let us trust that sooner or later, if we persevere, the path itself will emerge. Ark – February 2012

“At every moment you choose yourself. But do you choose *your* self? Body and soul contain a thousand possibilities out of which you can build many I's. But in one of them is there a congruence of the elector and the elected. Only one--which you will never find until you have excluded all those superficial and fleeting possibilities of being and doing with which you toy, out of curiosity or wonder or greed, and which hinder you from casting anchor in the experience of the mystery of life, and the consciousness of the talent entrusted to you which is your *I*.”

The only thing that seems to offer a way out is simply to observe the phenomena and compare the perceptions with a lot of other folks and try to narrow down the "constant" that is present in all of them. In this way, we can have a closer idea of what the Third Man REALLY is, and what he is REALLY doing, and what then, should be our best response. And, of course, "observing phenomena" means, in its most literal sense, to gain and gather knowledge of every form and sort so that one has a sufficient database from which to draw conclusions about observations of one's environment.

"Sins exist only for people who are on the Way or approaching the Way. And then sin is what stops a man, helps him to deceive himself & to think he is working when he is simply asleep. Sin is what puts a man to sleep when he has already decided to awaken. And what puts a man to sleep? Again everything that is unnecessary, everything that is not indispensable. THE INDESPENSABLE IS ALWAYS PERMITTED. BUT BEYOND THIS HYPNOSIS BEGINS AT ONCE." - G. I. Gurdjieff

It is very easy in the world, to live by the opinion of the world. It is very easy in solitude to be self-centered. But the finished person, is he who in the midst of the crowd, keeps with the perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

In order to practice controlled folly, since it is not a way to fool or chastise people or feel superior to them, one has to be capable of laughing at oneself. One of the results of a detailed recapitulation is genuine laughter upon coming face to face with the boring repetition of one's self-esteem, which is at the core of all human interactions.

Thanks for compiling this list and which ones do you like the most MikeJoseph82?

Thanks MikeJoseph82, reading the signatures of folks is something I do every time, so I recognize almost all of these, including mine. Good work. :)

It really is a great collection. Thank you for compiling it...:-)

And here, if I may, is mine ( not on your list): “Through others we become ourselves.”

Thanks for the compilation - was interesting to read.

I guess it's not on the list because MikeJoseph82 listed the texts in members' signature fields, and your quote is not there but instead under the avatar.

Yeah, that's called "Personal Text."

By the way, MikeJoseph82, great collection. Thumbs up! :)

No problem. I really like a lot of them but without re-posting most of the list again my favourites are:

  • One should also keep in mind that when you interfere in the "lesson plan" of another by trying to rescue them, you very often take their karma or lessons on yourself. That is, when you try to stop bullets for someone else, YOU are the one who gets shot.
  • All there is is Lessons. Knowledge Protects, Ignorance Endangers.
  • He who goes slow goes far.
  • The reward for learning the lesson is learning the lesson.
  • Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men.
  • A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.
I also have two quotes pinned to a board in my bedroom which I like too. The first is a picture of a guy sitting on a couch watching and pointing at a football match on the TV with the caption 'Get off your butt and do something!'.
The second is 'The law of the seed: effort + patience = results. You reap your harvest after you do the work.'

No problem and sorry about that - yes I took it from the signature fields, not the personal text but I'll add it to the above. Edit: I actually can't edit the above and add new quotes - I don't have that privilege to do so. Perhaps a moderator can do this please?

Also I could have kept going with the list but I thought 500+ posts was a reasonable benchmark to start at. If anyone else would like theirs added/removed or changed in the above or if people under 500 posts reach that level and would like theirs added in future I can do that too. Edit: Also as stated above I don't actually have this privilege so can't add anything new.

You only have half an hour to edit a post. After that the "Modify" button will not be visible/available.

Another way to do it is to add new ones in a new post. FWIW.
