CassWiki coverage of diet and health - contributions welcome!

The Living Force
It's planned for CassWiki to systematize the information on diet and health spread across this board. (As well as link to the most important reading on the forum and on SOTT for each topic.) What we've got so far is in the article series "Health and wellness".

You can see a description of the current coverage and what's planned here. There's a lot we can do to make the information more accessible, and contributions are most welcome!

There's currently one project in particular that's in progress: collecting the most up-to-date information on food preparation (methods and recipes).

Anyway, this thread is a place where you all can suggest additions and changes to the wiki content, for that page and others. The "Food preparation" page is presently a big collection of topics, and when a topic is more developed, it can be split off into its own article. For other health and diet topics, contributions can also go into new articles.

If you want to write something, no need to worry about formatting (bold, italics, links, etc.) and such - that can be done when stuff is added to the wiki. Likewise, we'll proofread the text, so no worries if you feel uncertain about your grammar, spelling, etc. But as a rough guideline, if the text looks more or less like something you might read in an article, that's the style to aim for.

Gathering links to posts and SOTT articles with the most up-to-date information on a subject - e.g. latest version of a recipe - is also helpful. It can be used at any time as a source by people who write text on the topic, whether it's someone in this thread or an editor on the wiki. And once there's a wiki article on a topic, the links can be added to it. (Before you go looking for SOTT links, though, it may be best to look through the thread "An article a day keeps doctors away!". It's a big collection of links, so keeping it in mind may save you plenty of time. However, especially for more specialized topics, for example various foods, there's still plenty of link-gathering that can be done.)

I want to point out that my idea for the Food Preparation page is not to collect recipes, but more to explain the process of how the food comes together so that you know how to use the ingredients that are available to you, and you won't need to constantly refer to recipes when you are just making meals for yourself. I think a separate section should be made if we want to collect recipes in the Wiki.

I think a separate section should be made if we want to collect recipes in the Wiki.

One way to structure it might be as follows:
  • This kind of general description of preparation can go in sections on "Food preparation". For dedicated articles on different foods (newly written or split off from "Food preparation"), it can be included as a section near the beginning.
  • Any recipes for a food can be included in a dedicated article on that food, in a "Recipes" section.
  • A "Recipes" page can be started when we have pages with recipes, to keep track of them and list them for readers.

For an article on a food, I picture it as follows: A general description of the food and the role it plays; general ways of preparing it; recipes; external links. An article doesn't have to contain all those things to be useful, though the more comprehensive it becomes, the better - and contributions can build one upon the other to approach that ideal.

Hi, i'm not sure were to post this but on the ketogenic diet page in CassWiki there is a picture of a healthy breakfast that includes potatoes. I'm sure it's very old and since there is so much work to be done and not enough workers it got missed. Once i'm allowed to help, I'd be happy to do so with SOTT/editing or EE or whatever is needed.
