Civil War 1861 - 1865

Have the C's ever said anything about the American Civil War? Was it simply, as billed, 'The War between The States', about restricting then abolishing slavery, and states rights vs the Federal govt. Or did the PTB at that time realise that national and territorial unity was to be a requirement for what was to follow?

(Hope everyone has been having a nice Christmas btw)

How timely, ec1968. I've had these same questions myself yesterday. But I haven't yet studied this topic at all, but would also be interested what others think.

'great minds' and all that Puzzle! (NOT, in my case!). I know a tiny bit about the war itself, but I'm really interested if (a) what we know of it has been distorted in any great way, as what I've read and viewed on the topic appear to be balanced accounts, and (b) if what we are told was the rationale, is the whole picture.

Cheers

Check out this link to an article by Webster Tarpley on the US Civil War. What I found particularly interesting is how close the US Civil war came to become a World War with The Confederacy, Great Britian and France on one side and the Union, Russia and Prussia on the other. Germany was not unified at the time.

Tarpley, as with all authors, has his own bias, but he normally has his facts straight.
