Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

We watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs last night. I did NOT like it. Mostly because it was one of those movies that you just sit through and pick out all the negative programming in it. The cartoon characters seem to live in a police state and the main characters are a narcissistic scientist and a naive news reporter who work at the beck and call of a psychopathic mayer and it's all normal.....and for kids. Does anyone know what I mean about picking through the negative programming and hoping you got it all? When I am forced to listen to the radio or television I do it too. Now that I think about it, it would qualify as critical thinking. Why do they call critical thinking critical anyway? Critical has a negative connotation to it. To discourage thinking? That's an example of what I mean when asking that question.

Perhaps one should consider critical thinking as critical to one's health, safety or just plain survival? ;)

I've seen it and I loved it, it actually made me laugh which did not happened much with any other animated movie in that category.

I thought it was more about realizing that if you want to help and do something, sometimes you don't think through all the consequences and things can go wrong.
The more you rely on something external to bring everything you need the more it's going to go wrong osit.
I liked the main characters as well because they were quirky and a bit nerdy, trying to fit in pre-determined roles instead of be who they are...it was really funny, there is no down time and unecessarily tear-jerker moments.

Of course there is also an undertone about the food we eat and the excess (sugar, fat and so on...) we indulge in but I did not feel it was preaching about that specifically.
All of the characters are not all subtle but that's not the point of this movie osit.

I don't understand why they would live in a police state ?...the cop character is obviously over the top but the whole movie is like that...over the top but in an enjoyable way.
but I can understand that not everyone might enjoy the craziness of it all.

I liked the monkey (c'mon !! the scene with the sugar rush where he fights against gummy bears).

I don't think it is for smaller children anyway.

It's inspired by the children's book of the same name (1978) :

my two meatball cents.

Yeah my 9-year-old daughter loved it and my elementary school teacher wife has been a long time fan of the book. The scientist's father supplies some moral conscience too and even the cop did too when he basically said the greed of the whole town contributed to the situation too (but he made sure to slap the scientist too). The mayor was definitely shown as a villian and the scientist and weather reporter saw in the end it wasn't good to try to please others at the expense of who you really could be. It is entertaining. The book is actually quite different from the movie but I heard it being read to the class and the kids were quite interested cause of the movie.

Yes I analyzed this movie to, even though I thought parts were funny I couldn't but help the messages that were being projected to kids in subtle ways.

I guess it's like anything you learn about, you can never see it the same way, for example ever since studying professional makeup artistry and special effects, I can never see past a professional makeup job on an actor or model etc, especially special effects makeup lol. I definitely think movies and media in general produce many sinister connotations to societal development.
