The documentary, “The Codes of Gender”, by Sut Jhally, who has studied and taught media and gender at the University of Massachusetts for over twenty five years, talks about how our culture today creates and reinforces gender roles and codes for our society through the popular media. The documentary talks about how men and women are taught to look or act and if they don’t conform or if they deviate from this cultural norm then they are simply not accepted or are ridiculed.
