Massive Russian Air And Artillery Strikes On The Night And Morning Of March 15

Russian aviation and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces and the DPR and LPR actively attacked various Ukrainian military infrastructure facilities and different AFU positions throughout the night and morning of March 15.
The Russian command finally switched to the tactic of massive artillery shelling before the troops moved forward.
In a number of cases, fire was opened at residential buildings where Ukrainian military firing positions reportedly were detected inside.
Multistory buildings in Kiev were damaged as a result.

On March 14, the Russian Air Force conducted an airstrike on the Impulse plant in the city of Shostka, Sumy Region, Ukraine’s only plant for the production of detonation equipment (primers, electric detonators, detonating cords, etc.).
In 2019, a new production center was opened at the plant, thanks to which Ukraine for the first time in history has established a closed chain of production of rocket weapons and artillery shells.
Last year, serial production of VOG-17V ammunition for underbarrel and automatic grenade launchers was rolled out.

At the same time, the Russian military reported that forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) broke through the defenses of Ukrainian nationalists in the region of Donbass and took control of the settlement of Panteleymonovka and reached the Verkhnetoretskoye-Novoselovka-2 line.
On the evening of March 14, near the village of Guta-Mezhigorskaya near Kyiv city, units of Russian airborne troops captured a stronghold of Ukrainian nationalists and foreign mercenaries. The Defense Ministry reported that Russian paratroopers seized 10 American-made Javelin anti-tank missile and a number of other types of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine. All captured Javelin anti-tank systems and other foreign weapons are transferred to units of the people’s militia of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

According to the Russian side, during the past day, aviation and air defense systems of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down 16 air targets: a Su-24 warplane and a Su-25 warplane, a Mi-8 helicopter and 13 unmanned aerial vehicles, including six Bayraktar TB-2s.
Russian operational-tactical, army and unmanned aircraft hit 136 military facilities of Ukraine, including: seven command posts and communication centers, four anti-aircraft missile systems, three multiple launch rocket launchers, four radar stations for reconnaissance, target illumination and guidance of the S-300 missile system, one electronic warfare station, four ammunition depots and 72 military equipment gathering sites.
Work of Russian attack helicopters:

Three hangars were destroyed at the military airfield near Kramatorsk. There were four Ukrainian Su-25 attack aircraft, a Mi-24 helicopter and five Mi-8 helicopters.
In total, since the beginning of the operation, Russian forces have destroyed 156 unmanned aerial vehicles, 1,306 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 127 multiple rocket launchers, 471 field artillery pieces and mortars, as well as 1,054 units of special military vehicles.
Meanwhile, an intense fighting continue inside Mariupol city in the Donetsk region and around the town of Volnovakha, which was recently liberated in the area to the north of Mariupol. The success in these sectors are creating conditions for the intensification of operations in other sectors of the region of Donbass. In particular for the liberation of the Severdonetsk-Lyscichansk agglomeration and the advance towards Slovyansk and Kramatorks.

In own turn, the Kyiv government continues to claim dozens of military equipment of Russia, DPR and LPR being destroyed on a daily basis. At the same time, the claims about the losses of Russia in manpower remain around ‘12,000’ for several days already. Most likely, the Kyiv government fears that if it continues claiming Russian losses at such scale it will easily reach 250,000 and then even the most desperate supporters of mainstream and Ukrainian propaganda will start questioning the provided numbers.

The main military developments in Ukraine are taking place in eastern regions and around the capital Kiev. While on the Kiev outskirts Russian forces reinforce their positions with any significant advances, in the Donbass region, the L/DPR and Russian forces are slowly but steadily advancing. However, the Ukrainian terrorist warfare may force them to change their tactics.

Russian and DPR forces continue the mop up operations in the city of Mariupol.
On March 14, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that special forces eliminated the main positions of Ukrainian nationalists in residential areas around the city. This made it possible to secure humanitarian corridors for civilians and to begin mass evacuation of the population that had been held hostage by Ukrainian neo-Nazis for a long time.
4 Russian columns consisting of 200 vehicles moved out of the Rostov region to evacuate residents of Mariupol.
The DPR assault units are heading to the city center with the gradual advance. The main successes were achieved in the western part of the city.
The reinforcement of Russian forces in Mariupol was reported. 5,000 soldiers of the National Guard of the Russian Federation reportedly came to the city.

In general, the situation on the Donbass front lines remains the same. The joint Russian and L/DPR forces still take the lead but they are still far from solving the main strategic task of encircling and defeating the main UAF grouping in the region. Both sides are suffering sensitive losses.
Some advances were reported in the south, where the joint forces reached the villages of Vodyanoe, Sladkoe, Stepnoe, Taramchuk and Slavnoe.

The Russian troops are heading towards the town of Kurakhovo, where the fierce clashes may break out soon, as the town is a large fortified node in the near rear of the AFU grouping operating near Donetsk.
After the senseless civilian massacre in Donetsk on March 14, the DPR artillery with support of the Russian Aerospace forces (VKS) severely pounded the UAF positions in the village of Avdeevka. This is a clear signal of the upcoming massive offensive. So far, some of the DPR assault groups attempted to advance through the UAF positions near Donetsk, but almost to no avail. The UAF positions there are well fortified and any in front assault results in significant losses by the two sides. That’s why the joint forces are trying to surround the UAF grouping as soon as possible. However, the regular shelling on civilian in Donetsk, including the recent bloody attack with Tochka-U tactical missile equipped with cluster munition may force the DPR to push Ukrainian forces out of the city outskirts.

Fierce fighting continues in the area of Popasnaya and Severodonetsk. Decisive success has not been achieved yet. The cities of Severodonetsk and Lisichansk are surrounded from the three directions, but the LPR troops seem to be not in a hurry to completely blockade the cities. Rather they have not enough forces to suppress the UAF on the outskirts, or they are trying to avoid another disaster like it is happening in Mariupol.
Some tactical successes of Russian forces were reported in the city of Izyum, where fighting continues for the control over the southern outskirts and the crossing of the Seversky Donets river. Russian assault units reportedly advanced on the western and southwestern outskirts of Izyum, and reached the area north of Barvenkovo.

In the afternoon of March 14 and in the morning of March 15, the number of combat sorties of Russian aviation increased. Large groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the East of Ukraine continue the active defence of their positions. The number of Russian armed forces in Ukraine is objectively insufficient for fast and decisive flank coverage and encirclement of dones of thousands of UAF troops on fortified positions. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was forced to change its initial tactics of “cavalry charge” to the systematic destruction of enemy forces and means using its advantage in aviation and artillery.

It's not even funny anymore. After Obama "to our economy to shreds", Russia become one of the largest grain exporters to the world market. Now this "cosmic" madam (I sometimes things she really is an alien) has completely crushed the already torn to shreds economy. And what's going on? Our authorities have not yet begun to respond, they are still preparing, but gasoline has become cheaper. A little, but it's getting cheaper. This has not happened for a very long time, so if Psaki is "to blame" for this - a bow bow and a wish to her - come on again! Yes, the dollar has risen in price, but I personally held a natural dollar in my hands for the last time 7-8 years ago, so this information is like a dust storm on Mars to me. Prices in stores are still in place, there is no panic

Yeah, yet still i had a lough when i saw the interview where she confidently states that the US of A crushed Russia's economy. It's like these minions are living in a parallel bizzaro world reality where wishful thinking reigns supreme, they're really seeing only what they want to see being too arrogant and most probably unable to recognize and understand what a true fact means anymore. In this case the fact is that Russia is still standing despite the West's actions against it's people and will keep standing because it has the will, the strength and the support of every dissident on the planet who sees who's the real bully on the block.

Edit: clarification.

In 2015 she was welcomed into the club;

She was also relatively new as a congresswoman in 2015 - then being more on the world stage with a voice. It might also be natural and somewhat alluring, to then be asked to join the big Davos club among all its other high profile members. But what of those last seven years? What did she see and learn? Don't know (not well acquainted with Gabbard's political work by any means), however there were her words and actions on Syria and others matters, and she made some new alignments, some with little choice, along with a number of enemies. Controlled opposition? Possible, yet not necessarily probable, and so it may be a question of watching further as 'ye shall know them by their fruits' in the end.

Will have to wait and see, osit.
I might be wrong, but I think Tulsi Gabbard has already proven herself by her fruits.

Very interesting article from the WSJ - Saudi Arabia pulling out of the Petro Dollar?

Saudi Arabia Considers Accepting Yuan Instead of Dollars for Chinese Oil Sales

Talks between Riyadh and Beijing have accelerated as the Saudi unhappiness grows with Washington

Saudi Arabia is in active talks with Beijing to price some of its oil sales to China in yuan, people familiar with the matter said, a move that would dent the U.S. dollar’s dominance of the global petroleum market and mark another shift by the world’s top crude exporter toward Asia.

The talks with China over yuan-priced oil contracts have been off and on for six years but have accelerated this year as the Saudis have grown increasingly unhappy with decades-old U.S. security commitments to defend the kingdom, the people said.

The Saudis are angry over the U.S.’s lack of support for their intervention in the Yemen civil war, and over the Biden administration’s attempt to strike a deal with Iran over its nuclear program. Saudi officials have said they were shocked by the precipitous U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan last year.

China buys more than 25% of the oil that Saudi Arabia exports. If priced in yuan, those sales would boost the standing of China’s currency. The Saudis are also considering including yuan-denominated futures contracts, known as the petroyuan, in the pricing model of Saudi Arabian Oil Co. , known as Aramco.

It would be a profound shift for Saudi Arabia to price even some of its roughly 6.2 million barrels of day of crude exports in anything other than dollars. The majority of global oil sales—around 80%—are done in dollars, and the Saudis have traded oil exclusively in dollars since 1974, in a deal with the Nixon administration that included security guarantees for the kingdom.

China introduced yuan-priced oil contracts in 2018 as part of its efforts to make its currency tradable across the world, but they haven’t made a dent in the dollar’s dominance of the oil market. For China, using dollars has become a hazard highlighted by U.S. sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program and on Russia in response to the Ukraine invasion.

China has stepped up its courtship of the Saudi kingdom. In recent years, China has helped Saudi Arabia build its own ballistic missiles, consulted on a nuclear program and begun investing in Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s pet projects, such as Neom, a futuristic new city. Saudi Arabia has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit later this year.

Meanwhile the Saudi relationship with the U.S. has deteriorated under President Biden, who said in the 2020 campaign that the kingdom should be a “pariah” for the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Prince Mohammed, who U.S. intelligence authorities say ordered Mr. Khashoggi’s killing, refused to sit in on a call between Mr. Biden and the Saudi ruler, King Salman, last month.

It also comes as the U.S. economic relationship with the Saudis is diminishing. The U.S. is now among the top oil producers in the world. It once imported 2 million barrels of Saudi crude a day in the early 1990s but those numbers have fallen to less than 500,000 barrels a day in December 2021, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

By contrast, China’s oil imports have swelled over the last three decades, in line with its expanding economy. Saudi Arabia was China’s top crude supplier in 2021, selling at 1.76 million barrels a day, followed by Russia at 1.6 million barrels a day, according to data from China’s General Administration of Customs.

“The dynamics have dramatically changed. The U.S. relationship with the Saudis has changed, China is the world’s biggest crude importer and they are offering many lucrative incentives to the kingdom,” said a Saudi official familiar with the talks.

“China has been offering everything you could possibly imagine to the kingdom,” the official said.

A senior U.S. official called the idea of the Saudis selling oil to China in yuan “highly volatile and aggressive” and “not very likely.” The official said the Saudis had floated the idea in the past when there was tension between Washington and Riyadh.

It is possible the Saudis could back off. Switching millions of barrels of oil trades from dollars to yuan every day could rattle the Saudi economy, which has a currency, the riyal, pegged to the dollar. Prince Mohammed’s aides have been warning him of unpredictable economic damage if he moves ahead with the plan hastily.

Doing more sales in yuan would more closely connect Saudi Arabia to China’s currency, which hasn’t caught on with international investors because of the tight controls Beijing keeps on it. Contracting oil sales in a less stable currency could also undermine the Saudi government’s fiscal outlook.

Some officials have cautioned Prince Mohammed that accepting payments for oil in yuan would pose risks to Saudi revenues tied in U.S. Treasury bonds abroad and the limited availability of the yuan outside China.

The impact on the Saudi economy would likely depend on the quantity of oil sales involved and the price of oil. Some economists said moving away from dollar-denominated oil sales would diversify the kingdom’s revenue base and could eventually lead it to repeg the riyal to a basket of currencies, similar to Kuwait’s dinar.

“If it is (done) now at a time of strong oil prices, it would not be seen negatively. It would be more seen as deepening ties with China,” said Monica Malik, chief economist at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.

The Saudis still plan to do most oil transactions in dollars, the people familiar with their talks say. But the move could tempt other producers to price their Chinese exports in yuan as well. China’s other big sources of oil are Russia, Angola and Iraq.

The Saudi move could chip away at the supremacy of the U.S. dollar in the international financial system, which Washington has relied on for decades to print Treasury bills it uses to finance its budget deficit.

“The oil market, and by extension the entire global commodities market, is the insurance policy of the status of the dollar as reserve currency,” said economist Gal Luft, co-director of the Washington-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security who co-wrote a book about de-dollarization. “If that block is taken out of the wall, the wall will begin to collapse.”

Talks with China over pricing oil in yuan started before Prince Mohammed, the de facto leader of the kingdom, made his first official visit to China in 2016, people familiar with the matter said. The crown prince asked the kingdom’s then-energy minister Khalid al-Falih to study the proposal, the people said.

Mr. Falih instructed Aramco to prepare a memo that heavily focuses on the economic challenges of switching to the yuan pricing.

“He really did not think that was a good idea but he could not stop the talks as the ship had already sailed,” said another person familiar with the meetings.

Saudi officials in favor of the shift have argued the kingdom could use part of yuan revenues to pay Chinese contractors involved in mega projects domestically, which would help mitigate some of the risks associated with the capital controls over the currency. China could also offer incentives such as multibillion-dollar investments in the kingdom.

Another official familiar with the talks said yuan pricing could give the Saudis more influence with the Chinese and help convince Beijing to reduce support for Iran.

Ali Shihabi, who sits on the board of Neom and formerly ran a pro-Saudi think tank in Washington, said the kingdom can’t ignore China’s desire to pay for oil imports in its own currency, particularly after the U.S. and EU blocked the Russian central bank from selling foreign currencies in its reserves stockpile.

“Any doubts countries had about the need to diversify into Yuan and other currencies/geographies would have ended with that huge step,” Mr. Shihabi tweeted in response to this article.

We are going to a city in Poland, we have already crossed the border. Our contacts are already organizing, we're going to regroup, re-equip, get weapons and equipment and return to Lviv to rescue some refugees that can't get out. And we have some friends stuck in Kiev too, needing weapons and equipment and we're going to do this operation so we can rescue them there.

I thought this statement was a bit odd. The Russians are not near Lviv, yes? So, why would there be refugees needing to be rescued because they can't get out? Idk. I find it to be a weird thing to say.

After thinking about this on my 'coffee break', there is probably nothing nefarious about this. The refugees are, perhaps, just blocked at the border if they're trying to cross. Perhaps the translation made me think in another direction.

It's becoming quite clear that Putin has predicted most, if not all, of the West's moves and has put measures in place to counteract them. One thing I've been worried about is the fact that so many large companies have announced leaving Russia. They are big employers and tax payers and although Putin clearly doesn't care about the West's opinion, I could imagine Russians wouldn't be too happy about rising unemployment and being left with devices without support.

But it looks like that move has been predicted - and countered - too. Companies that choose to leave will face nationalisation and their assets will be seized. That's a pretty smart move on Putin's part in my opinion:

Russia threatens to nationalize Apple, seize assets

"As soon as companies emerge that announce their withdrawal [from the Russian market] without providing guarantees to the Russian consumers, they're being added on to it. This means that administrative, criminal and court proceedings will be used against them"

Multiple reports indicate that Russia is threatening to nationalize companies that have stopped operations in the country, including Apple.

From CNN:

Russia said it could seize the assets of Western companies that have suspended operations in the country.
Dozens of American, European and Japanese companies from almost every sector of the economy have abandoned joint ventures, factories, stores and offices in the last two weeks in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the ensuring sanctions
Vladimir Putin reportedly told government officials on Thursday that Russia was considering plans to introduce "external management" to companies that had stopped operating in the country as a result of its invasion of Ukraine. That would include Apple, as well as companies like Microsoft, IBM, McDonald's, IKEA, and more. Putin reportedly said "We need to act decisively with those [companies] who are going to close their production... it is necessary, then ... to introduce external management and then transfer these enterprises to those who want to work."

The measures could see the accounts and assets of such companies seized, or could see them placed under external management or nationalized. Apple does not operate any retail stores or manufacturing in the country, but does have staff located in the country including a corporate office opened in February to comply with government law.

A multitude of companies, including Apple, have stopped operating in Russia as a direct response to its invasion of Ukraine. Russia has responded with its own measures, including banning many Western media outlets and apps including Instagram, which will go dark from Monday, March 14. Apple has stopped selling products in the country through its online store, and has de-platformed state-sponsored news outlets Russia Today and Sputnik. It means devices like Apple's best iPhone, the iPhone 13, are not available to purchase through the company's website. Third-party resellers who are still operating have increased their prices by 50% since the invasion began.

The Kremlin, Moscow

The President was updated on the main areas of the Agency’s activities, including continued efforts against the spread of COVID-19, such as the creation of the AmpliTest diagnostic test kit, the Mir-19 antiviral medication and the Convasel vaccine against the coronavirus.

* * *

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon.

Head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency Veronika Skvortsova: Good afternoon, Mr President.

Our task was to create a new antiviral triad: a test system, an antiviral medication and a vaccine against the coronavirus.

Since March 2020, we have created a series of high-precision and high-sensitivity AmpliTest kits. We started by creating test kits for the SARS-Cov-2 virus and then proceeded to create the AmpliTest system to detect, differentiate and identify its new strains. In particular, we created test kits for the Alpha, Beta and Gamma strains in March 2021 and for Delta and Delta Plus in July 2021. In early December, we created an AmpliTest kit, which can be used to detect three variants of the Omicron strain.

This is important because it helps us to evaluate the epidemiological situation, forecast its future course with due regard to the fundamentally different properties of the Omicron and Delta strains, and to make the necessary calculations for our medical organisations.

In December, we registered a medicine, Mir, the world’s first medication based on viral interference. It is a precision gene engineering preparation that switches off one of the sites of the SARS-CoV-2 virus genome, the most conservative one that does not change in all known lines.

Vladimir Putin
: Is it for treatment?

Veronika Skvortsova: Yes, for treatment. Actually, it is an antidote, because it can reduce the viral load by 10,000 times and does not affect the human genome in the process. It is a highly secure medication that is not toxic to humans. But at the same time it works after the first inhalation. When inhaled, dendrimeric peptide in the preparation targets the delivery of the active ingredient to the upper and lower respiratory tracts.

The medication was registered in December, in the first instance, for moderately and seriously ill inpatients. Currently, research is being conducted at the outpatient level in order to use the medication whenever a patient tests positive for COVID-19. It is most effective at this stage. Experience shows that three inhalations per day for five days is enough to turn a positive PCR test into a negative one.

The medication was devised by the Institute of Immunology.

Vladimir Putin: In St Petersburg?

Veronika Skvortsova: … In Moscow, but it is produced by the St Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums at its facilities.

Yet another medication, Leitragin, which we registered last year, also switches off one of the sites of the SARS-CoV-2 virus genome. But it is a pathogenic rather than an aetiotropic antiviral medication, which makes it possible to fully prevent the development of cytokine storm in moderately ill patients. It is also an inhaled medicine.

We have 35 research centres, all of which are working hard.

This is all we can report for now, but we have a lot of interesting R&D options under way.

Vladimir Putin: I see. And what about this?

Veronika Skvortsova: This is AmpliTest, as I said, a testing of Omicron and it variants. And Delta, separately.
Vladimir Putin: I see.

Veronika Skvortsova: It is produced by the Centre for Strategic Planning, also the FMBA’s research centre.

Vladimir Putin: All right. Thank you very much.
