Couple of good books I've re-read lately

"Jennie" by Douglas Preston. I consider it his best book, probably the best one he will ever make. It is based on a fictional chimpanzee raised as a human child basically. Preston used several cases of similar situations from the '60s and '70s to make a book that kills you emotionally. I've got dents on the wall from throwing my copy, _hard_, in disgust. Cried a lot first time around and I still cry when re-reading it. It makes me think of all the children and animals who are still basically regarded as property to be used whatever way as seen fit.

"Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich. I keep coming to this book time and time again. It's about the struggle of the working class during the boom years of the late 90's. Being a member of that class myself (though out of work) it resonates big-time with me. Things have only gotten much worst since then.
