While searching for articles, I came across this link about what's called a Cubesat. Basically these are miniaturized satellites having a volume of exactly one liter (10 cm cube) and weighing no more than one kilogram (2.2 pounds)! Didn't even know that these things existed!
There is a launch history located here showing that the earliest one was launched in 2003. The list shows all the non-military launches. Wonder how many the military and security forces have up there and for what purpose? Looks like just about anybody for the price of a new car can have one of these things up there and being so small, I don't think this would be visible even with a powerful telescope.
A picture of one of these things below:
Am I being paranoid or is there more to these things up there? Any one has more details?
